I have $1000 because of the sale of my customized Witness Carry-Comps .45 (moment of silence please) and birthday money. Need suggestions for a new range/fun/carry-if-there's-ever-a-blizzard-in-Jax gun. Size doesn't matter so fire away people.

Some limits though (and there are a few ):
No 1911s, Glocks, HKs, SA Revolvers and I already own a BE 9x19, SigPro 2009, CZ-75, SW 19-3 Snubbie, 686 4", Ruger Mk. II. Also, I have a flair for off-the-beaten-path guns.

There has to be enough left over for ammo and a holster so about $800 on the gun itself.

Thanks in advance.

Regards and Semper Fi!

PS Have my eye on a PC 629 6" V-Comp so try to convince me otherwise...

Do you reload? If not, you're not getting what you should out of the guns you've got. If that's right, then:

1. Dillon 650

2. Associated stuff (scale, dies, other stuff--check the sticky threads in the reloading forum)

3. Components

My roomie has a Hi-Power I shoot whenever I like and I live in the barracks so I have no place to reload.

I'm a stocky lil guy (5'9" and 160 lbs and 4% of body fat) and I can't even wrap my hands around a Desert Eagle and barely around a 5-7. At $26/box of 50 a LCpl has a tough time affording regual practice.

I'd look into a Ruger Super Redhawk .454. You can load .45 Colts for easy shooting or .454s for serious power. A big step up from a .357, but not obscenely huge or espensive like a .500. Rugers are about as though as they come, and the Target Grey finish looks great. Get the 9.5" barrel.

stiletto raggio- very ineresting....I'll look into it. My gunsmith has a factory 5" Model 25 in .45 LC I may be interested as well but I love the brute toughness of Rugers. What are some hot factory .45 LC rounds?

J Frame Smith

Since you don't have a J Frame, you need one.
Then buy A one ounce gold coin, new buffaloes are nice or Double Eagles. Keep both in your pockets.
Never know when A deal or emergency might come up.

Ill second the Ruger Super Redhawk. A friend of mine had one in 480 Ruger and it was a blast. I would get the .454 because you can shoot 45 colt too.

just my 2 cents

Python elite. Mainly for the investment value.

Who'd a thought guns would be an appreciating asset!

Second the 454 casull

Yes, 45LC for plinking, 454 casull for hunting. The new 460SVX sp? from Ruger would do the same with the 460 round being even hotter than the 454 IIRC. Three cartridges from one gun, that's pretty versatile.

JMO:

In a revolver:

Either the Colt Detective Special or the S&W pre-40 Centennial will give you years of pleasure shooting, and should increase in value while doing it...

In a pistol:

The Walther P5 (IMO) is a top quality pistol and surprisingly accurate... A pleasure to shoot and mine has been 100% reliable. With the Walther P5 you will have an example of German firearms craftsmanship that should retain it's value in years to come.

I have plenty of new/newer firearms for cc and such, but I take pleasure in having a few firearms that are "sorta" few and far between and have over the years developed a reputation for quality.

Just a suggestion..

Best Wishes,

J. Pomeroy

I'd also have to say,

some kinda big-bore revolver.

or maybe a contender or encore w\acoupla pipes.

just my $.02.
