100th aniversary for the 30-06

Well just happy birthday for a century of fine shooting. From Alvin York forward the 06 has been a great performer. The 25-06,270,and 35 all owe their heritage to the 06. Go into ANY store anywhere and the 06 is there in several weights and brands. Calibers may come and go but it has stood the test of time and excelled. It will(and has)take any game needed and has been on more hunts than any. Even Carlos Hathcock started his career with 06. I have used an 03 for nearly twenty yrs and prefer it to any of my auto loaders. There is an article in Hunting Magazine this month about five rifles in 30-06. One of which is the Ruger Md77. I have one and it is a fine shooter. Savage makes another which is very reliable. Again, Happy aniversary 06---don't you just love it!!!

When specifically was it developed? I know the 30'03 went back to the lab after the 8x57JS came out in 1905. But when was the final design for the first issue of '06 ball introduced?

Do not know the month but it was in 1906--that is why the 06 desination.

Yeah, I know that. But does anyone know what team worked on it or when it was released? I've read dozens of articles about the '06 but can't recall any mention of specifics.

Let's see -- I have a Ruger M77 (the old MKI with the shotgun safety), a pre-64 Model 70, two 03A3s (one Remington and one Smith-Corona), and an M1 Garand. I also have a custom '03 Springfield in .35 Brown-Whelen -- the most radical form of the Whelen.

I just can't get enough .30-06s.
