So my Savage 10FP-LE2 was having problems extracting/ejecting. The case would extract to within 1/4" of the ejection port at which point the case would slip free of the extractor hook and the case would fall back into the bolt way. I dissassembled the bolt, removed the extractor and lightly stoned the surfaces of the extractor. I then oiled everything and reassembled the bolt. My first tests using fired cases and an aluminum snap cap showed the problem remained. I posted my problems on the gunsmithing page and recieved precisely zero posts. So this morning before I took it to a gunsmith, I checked my rifle one last time to make sure it was still screwing up. Imagine my surprise when the rifle extracted and ejected perfectly! I tested it with 6 different pieces of brass and they all extracted, same goes for loaded ammo, same for the snap cap! All I can figure is that my polishing/ cleaning / oiling helped but the oil must have penetrated and freed up something. Needless to say I'm happy it's behaving itself, especially given that my gunsmith told me that the savage / remington extraction systems are "bombproof" when I called to schedule. So other than the penetrating oil theory and of course the magical theory, anybody have another thought?
