New to the world of 10mm's - just picked up a stainless gov't model Colt.

I intend to reload for this caliber, but I'm going to need some brass first and it seems like you can just about buy loaded ammo for what new brass costs.

Ammoman has a good price on the American Eagle 180gr lead stuff. Do you get nasty lead fouling at this velocity/power?

- alternatively -

Anyone know a good source for once-fired 10mm brass?

The Federal Eagle 180 gr lead load is Horrible! Most 10mm
shooters like to reload. I don't find factory 10mm to be more
than .45 or .357 SIG prices locally.

I'm not one to carry reloads for self-defensive purposes.
I like the 180 gr Hyra-Shock load very much. Use a variety
of ammo for outdoors/plinking in my 10MM Witness.

I've had very good luck with PMC 170 gr (1200 fps, listed - haven't clocked it myself). Pretty accurate through my Omega and plenty powerful. Previously, I had usually gone with Blazer and always felt they were a bit weak and compared to some Fed and rem I had tried very early on. only went with them due to cost. PMC is the one for me now.

thanks for the replies

I just got to shoot half a box at the gun store before they closed. All they had for range ammo was UMC. First time I have ever tried it. It was pleasantly accurate, though (or as accurate as I am, anyway). Big bright muzzle flash. The recoil was not bad at all after what I'd been led to expect... maybe this is not a true full-power 10mm load?

I will steer clear of the American Eagle.

Georgia arms had a good price on once-fired brass, so I bought a heap of that and a small amount of their loaded rounds (just enough to keep me going until I get my reloads up and running).

One more question, for my reloads, what bullet weight do you suggest for range/target ammo? How does the gun act different with different weight bullets?

JBP, you said you like the 200 grainers. What are they like?

Thanks again for the suggestions...

For loading 180 and 200 work great. As said before tha CCI blazer is good accurate ammo and it's cheap when on sale. Buy some for the time you don't feel like picking up brass.

Fed brass doesn't seem to be the best in 10mm and the lead stuff isn't bad , it's just weak!

Try some Cor-bon penetrators or Triton and ONLY THEN will you know what 10mm is all about.

The 10mm ROCKS

Buy some Starline brass - I think $100 or so per K, Blue Dot, Power Pistol or 800X powders and I like WLP primers. Zero Bullets has a good reputation for a cheap jacketed or West Coast makes a good copper plated - I like 180s at the range. Search here and GlockTalk for MCNETT, a real pioneer in 10MM loadings.
