I have 10mm range brass with spp holes that I have cut down to 40 length. Is there any dangers that should prohibit me from loading for 40. Just something I was playing with to see if it would work.

Which mnfr produces 10mm brass with pockets to accept small pistol primers? Something sounds awry.

Measure internal volume, if it's the same as regular 40 s&w brass it should work fine. I'll cut down 454 casull cases when they get tired and use them for 45 colt, works fine, small primer and all.

Check the brass thickness at the mouth. It may also taper wider sooner in the 10 MM and bulge your brass down low with the heavier weight bullets. Make up a dummy and go at it with calipers. If it looks good chamber it and see. 40 S&W brass is plentiful and someone would probably have traded you for the rarer 10 MM. I doubt that I would ever get that boored. If I was going to do that I would convert them into 357 SIG brass. Just sayin.

Not sure why ya want to go through all that work. 40 brass is easy to get. BTW what brass os 10 mm with spp?

Lol 40 is not too plentiful at the public range around here. I still got a lot of 10mm lpp that I have picked up, won't do anything with it other than go in the scrap bucket. Found a bunch of sig 357 the last time out, both brass and nickle.

You could have easily sold or traded that 10mm pick up brass, rather than making a ton of work for yourself to create something which is exceptionally common and inexpensive out of something which is far less common and more expensive.

Why would you throw 10mm brass in the scrap bucket????

There are plenty of people who will pay you for it.

It's times like now that pay it forward was started for.
If you don't have use for it. Make someone's day by mailing them a care package.
I don't need any of the brass you mentioned. Just making a suggestion.

That would be my train of thought as well. Offer 100 of them for 200 .40 cases in the BST reloading components section below.

Zero work and double the brass.

I will go through the bucket and start sorting out. The only thing that I reload is 40 and 9. Around here and I assume it is the same every where, 9mm is common enough that I have a five gallon bucket full. I keep 223/556 and 45 for a buddy but if he doesn't show more interest in them I will have to figure something to do with them too. So I am not committing the cardinal sin of scrapping brass that I should be saving what other calibers should I be pulling out of the bucket and saving. Just a side note I cut down the spp 10mm just to see if I could make it work and the wife may shoot the 2000 40 sw brass that I haven't made into cartridges yet.:)

Wait a minute mstreddy get in line
OK, OK, I'll wait my turn. I had typed my response and then saw yours.

OP, consider trading your 10MM brass for 40 S&W brass with any of us members here.
And, I can understand the cutting it down to try it, from the perspective of seeing if it would work.

10MM is one of those rare calibers though, at least in most parts, that you can use as trade for others. In the range I shoot at, there are bunches of 40 brass laying around. Not so much 10MM though.

Honestly, most brass is needed by "someone". If you don't load it, check the threads mentioned above and someone could probably use it. Many of us have used the Pay It Forward thread and passed along to someone who could use it. As mentioned, if you have enough, you could sell or trade.
I'd say, keep track of the 10MM, 357 Sig, 38 Super, 357 Mag, 44 Spcl and Mag, 45 Colt, 380 ACP, 32 ACP, etc. Rifle calibers too!
Sort through and let us know what you have.
