10mm spp cut down to load 40 s&w

Isn't spp preferred in 45?

Some people despise it and wish it was never created. It’s still a small portion of what you will find at most ranges.

Some people don’t care because they just shoot and walk away leaving the brass for whoever wants to pick it up.

Some people like the SPP stuff because all the other rounds they load for are also SPP so it’s one less thing they have to convert.

Some will keep it for shooting in 45 ACP revolvers or to load as a batch and use it at “lost brass” matches?

In the crowd I run in, I know it’s “preferred” by fewer than the number that dislike them and they know, I’ll take it, with the promise that I don’t littler the bay’s we shoot in with them.

Check the brass thickness at the mouth. It may also taper wider sooner in the 10 MM and bulge your brass down low with the heavier weight bullets. Make up a dummy and go at it with calipers. If it looks good chamber it and see. 40 S&W brass is plentiful and someone would probably have traded you for the rarer 10 MM. I doubt that I would ever get that boored. If I was going to do that I would convert them into 357 SIG brass. Just sayin.
I would have traded. I've got hundreds of .40 S&W and access to much more, if needed, and I don't have a gun chambered in that cartridge. I also agree with the .357 Sig conversion.

I know I would.
I prefer it, I have traded LPP for SPP on multiple occasions.

When I have my press set up to run 45 small primer brass, and a large primer case finds its way into the mix, all that happens is that I end up with a round missing a primer. If it is the other way around, then things come to a halt, as a large primer will not fit a small pocket no matter how hard I push the lever. It breaks the rhythm and slows things down.

Not at all. It's a fairly new thing. All the SPP brass I find goes into a jar. I've got around 500-700 of them so far.

You two need to have a conversation, it sounds like.
EDIT -- or are you talking 10mm vs. 45 acp?

LOL. I’m all for a conversation, if you buy the beverage. ;)

I was speaking just for myself. I wish all of a given caliber were just one primer size, whether it be small or large, as that would make things much easier. But, given that two sizes already exist, and there are enough small primer 45 brass left at the range by others, I’ll use the small. The problem with 10mm is that it is uncommon in large primer, let alone small primer.

I'm cutting down 10's to 40. The reason I have plenty of LPP and LPP magnum primers. So, shooting 40's with LPP takes some pressure off my stockpile of SPP's.

Hmmm. Sacrilegious. I can respect the notion of saving small primers but why not buy a 10 and reduce the load to 40 power if you "need" to shoot 40. 10mm brass isn't easy to find and when I can it isn't cheap.

I have tried a couple times and just couldn't see to get the LP to fit either using my hand primer.
I prefer LPP .45 brass, but free brass is free brass and it is nice to have some SP brass around just in case.

I was not happy with spp brass when I first found a small bit but I ended up having enough to make a 100+ batch so I starting using it because I wanted to just buy SPP. In these times lpp seem to be much easier to find so I'm loading those. In the current environment I'm happy to have the option. I use a rcbs hand primer so I could understand people who use a progressive not being happy. I separate them when drying after wet tumbling.
