110g FMJ-RN in .30-06/.308

I've got a bunch of .30 Carbine bullets on the bench and was wondering if anyone has loaded them in a .30-06 or .308 case.

They're Hornady and Hornady manuals lists load data for this bullet. Anyone done this and what were the results?

FMJ: They work O.K. for plinking out to a couple three hundred yards.

If they are the soft-point version, they are like small bombs when they hit a varmint at 3,400 FPS!

I did it. You're loads will be on the short side, so if you are using an auto-loader be prepared for any issues this may cause. This is unavoidable, as the bullets are so short, if you are any where near 2.80 I don't think the bullet is even in the case but a couple millimeters.

Surprisingly, however, they shoot very accurately at 100 yards, and 200 yards was pretty good, too. Only caveat for these I already mentioned, so load 'em and have fun. I think they are an easy kicking practice load.

Shot some FMJ out of a .300 Wby once. They went 4200fps. The chronograph still bears scars from the ones that blew up at the muzzle.

I tried them but the rate of twist in the barrel didn't let them perform well. That was probably what killed Plinky's bullets (in the post above) at those higher velocities.

Fun and cheaper to shoot, but not very accurate.

Got a 30-30 ? Light bullets with round noses are a lot funner in those lever actions!

How do you think they would shoot at lower velocities (reduced loads)? I'm thinking about it too.
