115 grain 9mm or 124?

115-grain has worked in everything I've tried it in, but shoots a bit low from POA in my Kel-Tec PF9. That gun is probably sighted for 124-grain stuff. I just hold a bit high. I've never had any 124-grain ammunition available. Even back in the early nineties, the agency I worked for was issuing a Federal 115-grain load.

I have a couple of guns that don't always work that well with 115 gr. bulk ammo but since I use it primarily at the range, it's not a big deal. I go with 124 gr. in my carry guns.

I think 147gr, in general, has better terminal ballistics than 124gr or 115gr cartridges.

147gr HST and 147gr Ranger "T" Series RA9T.

Either shoots well for me across the 9mm's I have. Winchester WB, Federal, Remmington, CCI Blazer, Speer, Fiocchi, Magtech, Sellier Bellot function fine so it comes to a price point decision and what is available. In my parts, "out of stock" is the trend. That my motivate a different purchase decision of get what you can.

I have had guns that would feed 115gr but didn't like 124gr, and vice versa, but the ones I can think of had sharply raked grips, like the Luger and the Benelli B-76. Still, it would be best to try both and if there is a difference in feeding or accuracy.

Used to prefer 127 WW Ranger +P , when I could get it . I was better all around than the 147 same in most ways on goats and sheep I slaughtered with it.

I usually shoot 124s. My reasons are probably not statistically valid, as I have only ever owned 3 9mm pistols. That said, they’ve all run 124s pretty well, and they all seemed to prefer it over 115s, if only by a very slight margin. No, I don’t have any numbers to back that up, so put it in the FWIW Category.
