HI new to forum and I have a
1187 super mag with a few querkie problems.
First of all I use the gun to duck hunt and it is
cleaned and oiled after every yes every time I go hunting.
First problem I am on my 3rd set of extractor assemblies.
They keep flying off.I sent it back to remington each time they
replaced the parts and find nothing wrong.
The second is occassional the second round instead of
racking into the chamber it ejects out the bottom where you feed the gun.
Any help or thoughts will be appriciated.
Oh I only use 3 1/2 inch magnum shells in it.

Welcome.

They keep flying off.

Are they flying off, or are they breaking? Were you able to inspect the last fired round when this happened? Did it have a torn or indented rim (corresponding to where the extractor grabs it)?

I am far from an expert, but if the gun were mine, I would polish the chamber with a dowel chucked in a battery drill, and a nice wad of steel wool wrapped around the end per Dave McCrackens Cleaning 101.

I know you say you have cleaned the gun after every hunt, but have you removed the trigger group and completely cleaned and lubricated it? The only way a round can fly out the bottom is if the elevator is up when it should be down. There is definitely something wrong there...sticking perhaps? I say sticking, because if something were broken, it would most likely happen all the time. Since it is intermittent, it would seem that sticking is likely. Could be a burr, could be grit.

Just some suggestions. You will get more from folks more knowledgeable than I am.

Good luck.

The 1187 super mag has a "Barrel Seal Activator", it's a small black ring, installed between the piston and the barrel seal o-ring. It is recomended that it be removed when shooting 3 or 3.5 inch shells. Acording to Reminton, not doing so could cause just such problems. Could this be relevant in your case? :scrutiny:

Thanks for the replies
yes The ring is removed. And yes i always remove trigger assembly
via the 2 pins. As fas as the extractor they are gone not broken.
Was hoping someone else had a similar problem and a fix.
Thanks for your help guys keep them coming.I hope I can figure this out.
Other than these 2 small problems the gun operates great and is deadly
on ducks.I will try that cleaning and give the gun a go for spring gobblers.

Try posting your question on the gunsmith threads. Those guys will give you your answer.
