some time ago with 12.5 grs of 2400 using Lyman 357446 ,

I plan on shooting this load in a model 19 and a couple of other

medium non n frame .357 revolvers is load too hot ??

please post, many thanks

Nice, don't see a lot of people using the old bullet designs. That 358466 is an interesting history behind it.

14.0gr gr of 2400 has been the "gold standard" for decades.

I've been lucky enough to own all the molds in that article/link above and did a lot of head to head testing in several different firearms & bbl lengths over the years. The cramer #26 hp is still my favorite of all those older designs.

I checked my Lyman 49th and your load seems a bit on the light side. Did you consult your reloading manual?

The range for 2400 in that weight for cast lead in Lyman's 44th (which I have saved as a PDF) is 11.0-15.0 for a 158gr. LRN so I think you're safe. It looks like you hit the middle of the range for that weight. That exact bullet ought to be in the Lyman's 45th as a new entry. I don't have the 45th Ed. online and I'm working today in the office so I can't check. Sorry. You'll have to let us know how it shoots.

My Lyman 42 dated 1960 says that a suggested load of 2400 with that bullet is 12.0 grains with a max of 15.0.

Don't think my Speer manual would go that high.

I went through 2# of 2400 14.5 grains at a time with a 158 lead swc and had no problems. My regular plinking load is 5.0 grains of bullseye with the same bullet.

I have used 14.2gr of 2400 with spp and spm primers in a 2.75" Ruger Sec. Six with 158gr jacketed bullets and that worked well, I prefer Accurate #9 for those bullets.
I have tried 10-13gr of 2400 for 158gr plated, and lead @ 12 bhn, with ok results but for those bullets but I prefer a faster powder.
