I found a load to run with #4 buck, PB powder, RP12 wads + 23 gr. buffer; using Remmy unibody cases per load data from Shotgun Reloading manual.

Question is, they recommend using an overshot card with the buffer, but I can't find any locally; had to order the wads online.

Can I make overshot cards out of a light cardboard such as the back of a writing tablet? I have a punch I think would be big enough to cut a clean circle.

thanks

I started loading durring the dark ages, before the internet. All that was available was paper wads, over powder cards and filler wads, and mostly all paper hulls. The OP wads could be split into thin waffers, about 3 or 4 papers thick. The split wads were durable and were used for holding the shot in, roll crimping over it. I realize you will be star crimping.

You might look for old paper wads, or see if they are still manufactured. I would think the thickness of the cardboard you talked about would be too thick, and may obstruct the pattern. On occasion I have seen grey cardboard that split in a fassion similar to the old wads. That should work if you can find some.

Or, try to use a thick piece of parchment type paper under a star crimp. It does not need to be real durrable just to hold the buffer in.

Good Shooting!!

thanks Shoney; I ended up using some red construction paper from my boys stash;

now to the back 40 to pattern,,,,,
