ok first of all i appoligize. i loaded up about 20 shells black powder loading. However i forgot what the load was. i have to find the load data sheet i used. Anyhow i used Goex 2ff followed by fiber wads and then 7 1/2 shot. followed by a wad card.

I loaded these probably about 8months ago. This past weekedn i took them out to the range. I had a bunch of other shells winchester x brand i believe. i started off shooting the winchester. Then my son kept bugging me to shoot the reloads. So i finally did.

WOW aside from the smoke of shooting bp. The sound was definately different. The recoil wasnt bad. I was shooting this from a NEF mod choke. The pattern seemed to be very good to. We were shooting at the steel targets and i was pretty much just interested in seeing how they pattern. This was easily done as you could see the spray against the steel at 25 yards and also hitting the dirt. Now im not too sure what i did with that load sheet. However i can tell you those were some very impressive loads. Especially shooting black powder.

So my question has anyone else shot bp loads. i believe i got the load from a magazine about a year ago. called Guns of the old west. Fantastic article now i need to find it and that load.

I've loaded and shot a few BPoads. Talked to people and read up on the process.

FFg is the right granulation of powder.
Nitro overpowder card. Compress powder here.
Fiber wad (s). This is where you adjust length of load to match length of shell.
Shot.
Card wad. Not the same as the nitro card.
Crimp as normal.

Everything I had read recommends a square load. VOLUME of shot equal to volume of powder.

If you use the brass shotshells now available again you will need 11 ga cards and wads. I have both.

Except for the powder I use my MEC for everything. I plan on getting more FFg this morning and loading some for cowboy action this afternoon.

Heres a link that may help. http://www.tbullock.com/bpsg.html

As for the crimp i did them both. i loaded them and used factory style crimp. Then on some of the shells i used and exacto knife and cut around the top then used an over the shot card and a little elmers glue. One thing i can say from reading and talking to folks around. Pretty much you want to used junk hulls as when you reload a bp round and shoot it. All you can do is throw it away. bp for sure burns hotter and there were some pretty good signs of melted or over heated plastic. Any how they were sure fun to shoot. Looking forward to shooting bp rounds again.
