The CZ 97b .45ACP comes witha a plastic recoil spring guide rod that is not full length. It does fine with the weaker stock spring but manywho want to add a stronger Wolff spring go with a FLGR as it better guides the recoil spring and keeps it from twisting all over inside the slide. These FLGR's are not available from anywhere else but from www.jackashcustom.com as far as I know.
I chose to get another FLGR as my current one was 2-3 mm too short. What that did is cause stress. First, stress to my perfectionist's eyes and second, stress to the FLGR itself.
I had mirror shined the FLGR prior to shooting. However, after firing close to 150 rounds it acquired some very noticable stress marks. I believe what was happening was that, because it was a tad too short, when the slide would move back the nicely beveled tip of the rod would find the opening under the barrel bushing but instead of gliding through it, it would sorta bang through it. The rod, due to being in the spring and being a little too short, would never perfectly align with the hole. It would first hit up or down or sideways depending on how it was resting inside the slide prior to the shot being fired. It would continue to vibrate in this sort of way as the slide slid back. I thought about what could have caused the stress marks for a while and this is the best theory I could come up with.
Anyway... after trying to make my own FLGR and wastind a few dremal attachments and highly aging my dremal tool I came to my senses and decided to order one from 12 Volt Man.
I just received my SS FLGR from 12 Volt Man yesturday -

I did not expect to get the FLGR so quickly as I knew 12 Volt had just had a new baby and was probably very busy and tired. I was surprised that it arrived when it did. It was neatly packaged in a ziplock bag and bubble wrap, and a sturdy little box. I would have thought it was a piece of crystal I was getting, not a SS FLGR - the care and effort 12 Volt Man expended in just the packaging was evident.
Even though I had a garage sale to get ready for I could not wait and open the package. I have to say this SS FLGR is flawless - mirror shine, the bevel on all the edges, and the demensions and length are all supurb. The little nipple on the FLGR's head was well shaped and right on center. Here are some pics...
The mirror shine is so good that in this pic you can see the tiny pores of the paper the FLGR is placed on being relfected by the finish. There is no trace of any machining or sanding marks...
Snapping it in was a snap - not as hard as I had thought. The beveled edges made it easy and comfortable to handle. Even though the 18 lbs. Wolf recoil spring didn't help any it was not any harder to do than the previous shorter FLGR. It sure fills up that hole nicely...
It seems to me that the very first FLGR's that 12 Volt came out of had a sharper beveled tip, which I did not like as much. This beveling is still plenty for snapping the FLGR in but looks better to me in the way it fills up the hole. The SS FLGR is certainly worth the price and a little more in my opinion.
I will post a little review of how it does after I get the chance to go shooting again.
