I'm thinking I'd like a new AR to play with. I already have a Bushmaster M4A3. Thought about getting a Colt 6920 but don't know if it'd be worth it since I already have the other M4. Generally I like cool tactical guns with lots of gadgets, but I've been thinking about a .50 cal for a while. Don't know if you can get those for $1200 though. Anyway, what would you guys get?

$300-500 for a 3-day training course and 2000rds of XM193 at $199/1000. That would leave you between $300 for meals and hotel or nifty gun gadgets and you would feel much more confident and capable with the rifle.

However, if you just prefer the gadgetry aspects of shooting more, there is the mythical and as-yet unseen Leitner Wise MRS upper in that price range. This is a short-stroke gas piston AR that can do 40,000rds with no cleaning, has a built-in uninterrupted rail like the LMT and also has a quick change barrel that allows you to change any standard AR barrel without tools in seconds (basically two levers on the side of the rail system that secure and lock down the barrel with better engagement than the current barrel nut system).

Of course all of this is manufacturer claim since nobody I know has seen one and they aren't in production yet; but will be at some as yet unspeicifed date this year.

However, the short stroke gas piston upper is a production item and the few people who have one seem very pleased with them, though it seems they heat up the handguards a bit more since they vent excess gas just behind the front sight base.

Hey, what about putting a lower together for +-$150, whatever stock you like for <$100, and then slap on an Alexander Arms .50 Beowolf! Or .458 SOCOM? But I saw lots of Beowolf stuff at this one online store, too bad I forget who they were.

I'd rather get 3 AK's and a case of ammo...

3 AK's and a case of ammo? I'd rather get 2 service grade CMP Garands and a case of ammo. :D

Seriously, what do you want to do with your AR? Urban combat? Varmints? Service rifle competitions?

$1200 for an AR for what purpose? If it were me, I'd be on the phone with White Oak Precision getting a 1:6.5 twist Pac-nor barrelled service rifle upper built, but that's the game I play, or at least try to.

2 guns in one and buy the toys later,

1 16 in inch crome-lined Bushmaster A3 1/9, and with the left overs buy a 20" 0r 24" non-chromed upper in a faster twist,A3 of course. 1200 well spent.

I already have a 16" Bushmaster A3 carbine... so I would personally get something with a longer barrel for a precision rifle or step up to the .308's altogether. Perhaps give one of those Bushmaster "pistols" a shot just for curiosity's sake.

Weird setups catch my eye and I usually dig them because they're unique. I've seen someone put a wire-type stock and a front vertical grip on a Bushmaster 97S pistol in .223 and register it as an SBR. It looks like a loud range toy. Not a very practical setup unless you're a bodyguard or clearing hostile midget housing, but it seems fun to have nonetheless. Attached an image, don't recall where I got it from or who it belongs to.

For a 5.56 AR, I'd do again what I did the first time: LMT carbine with all the good stuff:

If you are looking at something other than a gun, there are obviously unlimited possibilities.
