AR colt or bushmaster?

The original question was Colt or Bushmaster. And it is still pretty easy to find a bad AR. I suppose your opinion is probably based on your definition of "bad", as is mine.

I didn't feel that I needed to mention ASA or Hesse/Vulcan Arms specifically.

I challenge you to name one military contract holder that would not struggle if their contracts were pulled. Not one of these nickel and dime places that recieves a contract that they never deliver on, I'm talking about a real supplier that delivers thousands upon thousands of their product. Colt still has a viable LE and civilain market. It sells every gun it makes. It just ships the majority of them to uncle sugar.

If Colt would have lost the M4 contract, they would have folded. Their civie, LE production is not enough to keep it going. Hell they were almost ruined by loosing the M16 contract. Colt is not the company it once was.

Hahaha...:D

I agree that they would go under or visit the brink, but my point was so would nearly every other company that their majority business is defense contracts.

And my point is this is what happens when you shun the civie market. Take the 1911 for instance. While I am one who prefered the Colt Gov;t Model, they lost out on the market becasue they just can't get it together. Too bad for them. They could be in a good position right now if they would pay attention to this market both in pistol and rifle.

A better way to say it is that Colt is no longer the only place to get an AR period. With all of the competing makers, it has really become difficult to find a bad AR. RRA, DPMS, CMMG, LMT, STAG, Defensive Edge SLR15, Bushy, Sabre Defence, are all putting out quality rifles. Take the military contract away from Colt and they would go under. This is a hard pill to swallow for the Colt purists.

We have argued this before and no offense is meant. But I think getting a bad Ar is easier than you know. For example I have seen a lot of problems with DPMS. Those are the guns that my old and new department issue. Issues revolver around poor quality control, parts fitting, ext. Armalite has had issues to the point I will not trust one. I have had ok luck with Bushy myself but I know of people having problems with them, broken bolts ext. The most trouble free brand according to me and most people seems to be Colt.

Pat, have seen broken Colt bolts as well. Bushy has very spotty QC. They ALL have their quirks, but your chances of getting a lemon are slim now a days.

A different perspective

I onwed (loved) my Bushmaster A3 type. What "sold" me on laying out the cash was the fact that you can easily repair it yourself. SOmething goes wrong, if it is not warranty-covered, the fact that the AR is a "piece" firearm by that I mean it can be detail stripped considerably more than my Springfield M1A "Loaded", which if IT breaks, it is a major issue. With the ARs, say your bolt snaps, it's no biggie. They are inexpensive and SIMPLE to replace. Parts are everywhere. So, I don't understand when people talk of "if you want to shoot considerable rounds, get a Colt", etc. Seems to me that applies to all ARs, because if Mil Spec., they all are as I described, easy to repair, inexpensive to repair. For my likes, I would, if I bought an additional AR get a Bushmaster, or as a second option, a Colt, but Colt purely for name-sake and nothing else. I did the same with my 1911s, purely name sake. Others were just as good.
