Decided to go ahead and shoot this test despite the high wind. The conditions were not perfect in any means. Had 15-20 mph wind with Gust to 30, direction 8:00. The saving grace was it was not constant and the direction was shielded by my house. So I tried to shoot these when the wind laid.
Did a latter test from 4.8gr to 5.2 gr. Dispensed off a RCBS 1500
124 gr XTP's at 1.125" OAL
WSP, Win Brass
Test gun my 1911 Dual upper (9mm, 357sig) @ 25 yrds.
Used my version of the Ransom Rest, set not to auto reset. Meaning I had to return the gun to fire position.
Target has a 2" BE with 1" outer rings.
Ignore the BE and look only as the groups. With my setup I can not move lateral without taking things loose. Once I lock every thing down I don't touch it. POI is what we are looking at.
(I shot these after the 60 rounds of 5.0 WSF RMR 124gr MW, so Barrel and gun dirty.)
I tried to mark where the 1st shot went and what shot that was out of place. Just for references.
Crony data from 8', results written on target.
4.8gr WSF Not a bad start. Was actually the best group of the lot.
4.9 gr WSF
This group had one where the velocity was very low when compared to the others. 1118 fps with a 1168 fps Av, 1st shoot low left BE. Then things changed. Wish I knew what.
5.0 gr WSF
1st shot and last out of place.
5.1 gr WSF
Horz stringing shift with 1 st shot low right BE.
I do not think or know if the wind could move the bullet this far.
I did get a gust of wind which blew over my crony. Had to add the weight to the base of the tripod. So this may be the shift from be getting up.
5.2 gr WSF
1st shot center BE right, second 1.5" up.
Primers were getting flattened so I stopped here.
The RMR 124gr MW out shoots the XTP's.
