there on sell locally for 15.99 a box of 100, figured I would pick up a couple boxes
and work up a load with power pistol, then stock some away. I use power pistol
with good results for plinking rounds but not used the XTPs yet.
I've gone a lil bit beyond max with Unique, even despite seating the XTP to a compact 1.06". Works great in my guns. I guess when I pay that much for a premium bullet, I want it to leave the barrel at a premium velocity. Of course at that price, I guess you can afford to plink paper with them. That's a nice find!
Hornady 8th Edition says 5.7 grains of Power Pistol is maximum with the 124 XTP in 9MM. That's with Hornady cases and Win SP primers and a overall length of 1.060"
I think i am going to give it a try 5.5 power pistol 124gr XTP at oal 1.090. I REALLY REALLY need to invest in a crono all inputs/opinions help alot,
THANKS
Ive loaded a few for the same reasons.
I did 5.2,5.5,5.7 and (5.8gr<WHICH IS OVER MAX!) of Power Pistol with the 124gr xtp. Only loaded test rounds and shot them through a few different guns but havent gone back to load more of them yet.
I dont recall my OAL, but I generally go as long as I can when using near max or max loads.
They all shot nicely, grouped well. Of course the hot stuff was fairly lively.
I would really like to know the pressure of the 5.8gr powerpistol load if anyone wants to run it through Quickload.
I've shot several XTP's both 115gr & 124gr bullets, using power pistol, and used 6.5 for the 124gr bullets and 6.7 for the 115gr bullets. with no problems. Right out of the Alliant reloading guide lists 115gr FMJ, Min. OAL 1.140 with 6.7 gr. PowerPistol. The 125 gr FMJ, Min. OAL 1.150 with 6.6 gr. PowerPistol. Also lists 147 gr. XTP's, Min. OAL 1.140 with 5.7 grs PowerPistol, so 5.5grs for the 124 gr XTP's seems a bit light for that bullet weight, IMO. LM
I think the issue is that the XTP is usually listed at an OAL of 1.06". Cuz of its shape, it won't chamber in some guns if you try to seat it to 1.15". To be safe one ought to stick to the data for the OAL ur using.
I've heard that Hornady lists the 147gr XTP at an OAL of 1.100" which is right at the edge that will load into one of my guns using 5.2gr Power Pistol. Alliant says 5.7gr max @ OAL of 1.140, a 10% reduction from 5.7 puts me at 5.2, with the shorter OAL maybe I should start at 4.8gr? Who do ya'll belive, the bullet maker or the powder maker?
