Anyone on this forum have any input on loading the 300 Savage with the Hornady 125 Gr. GMX bullet? Any comments, thoughts or suggestions are appreciated.

Seems to me that particular combo would be close to ideal for whitetail deer, antelope and feral hogs.

What say ye?

I hunted for years with a 99 in 300 Sav and I felt plenty invincible with it. I'd probably recommend the etip due to the larger cavity causing the bullet to grab the rifling better and create more trauma at the wound tract but I see nothing wrong with what you're doing, I think that sounds like more fun than most places allow and if your gun will shoot it well I'd be very happy about it!

I usually load with 150 grain or heavier bullets for best performance in my 300 SAV rifles. Mostly with 170 to 180 grain bullets giving the best accuracy at 100 YD+ ranges. Let us know how the lighter bullets work out for you. I basically treat it as I would a 308.

My Savage 99 shoots great with the Hornady 150 gr SST Savage over Varget. Most accurate load I have tried but would be interested in the lighter bullets also. The SST bullet works great on medium game.

I would be curious to see if that bullet was accurate as well. I made an effort to shoot the speer 130 gr. years ago and accuracy was mediocre. The most accurate bullet for my 99 has been the 165 gr Nosler Ballistic tip. Second would be the 150 gr. Hornady Interlock. Just under max loads with 4895, either Hogdon or IMR. I suspect the 125 would work great on game, if you can get an acceptable group from it.
