Are there any muzzle loading blackpowder 12ga's that are suitable for turkey hunting? i.e. can take 2 ounce loads of shot?

I mean, I suppose one could physically dump 2 oz of shot down the bore of any muzzle loader, but I am wondering if there are any brands that are too weak to handle the load?

anyone blackpowder turkey shoot? what gun/powder/load do you use?

thnaks,

I know TC made a Turkey Fowler, but I'm not sure of the load it can handle.

I know my Pedersoli Coach gun is rated for 1 1/4 oz. of shot and 89 grains of ffg. That's still a hell of a load. I've fired dimes, star washers, .36 cal balls and bits of chain etc. outof mine with no ill effects.

And as far as I know, there is no modern 12 ga 3 inch shotshell that delivers 2 oz of shot.. so what are you trying to do?

I suppose you could go old fashioned and buy a working blunderbuss.

sure is

Sure there is: Kent Ultimate Diamond shot, 12ga 3in 2oz. no 4 and 6 shot.

Basically, I am looking for a blackpowder rifle strong enough to handle a load like this (at 1200 fps or close to factory).

I am also interested in loading a 12ga-50cal sabot in there. I have some 50cal bullets (for a 50-120 I believe) that weigh around 600grains! About 1and1/2 ounces. And I want a smokepole capable of launching these without damaging...well... me.
(from the schrapnel of an exploding rifle, that is)

I ma not ever actually load anything so punishing, but I like to know I could. I like to have confidence that anything I shoot is strong enough for any loading- make my life that much more worry free.

Actually, there's one 12gauge load that did it one better. I still have about 8 rounds of Activ 2-1/4oz 3" (yes 3", not 3.5") magnum nickle plated turkey shells. Sadly, they were absorbed by Kent, and those unique shells with their plastic hulls and steel ring basewad have disappeared.
BP fowlers: T/C made a 12gauge add on barrel for their New Englander/Grey Hawk series of rifles. It included screw in choke tubes that would make it a suitable fowler. I'm trying to find one of those barrels for myself, as a matter of fact. Loading data for them listed loads up to 1-1/2oz as I recall. You really don't need more than that anyway. Most new turkey loads are tending towards speed and away from the payload craze of the nineties. I see a lot more 1-5/8oz loads now, and lot fewer 2oz loads. Those new loads have speeds that BP fowler loads never really attained.
I chase turkeys with a blackpowder rifle,as that is legal in my state.
