Just curious if a custom made barrel for for a TC encore or H&R shotgun with a short chamber and marked for marine flares only would be considered a SBS.

Since it would be designed for marine flares only I do not think it would be. Sure it would have potential to be used improperly (like the sig arm brace) but using something (a flare gun) improperly doesn't make something else (an SBS).

Just curious about this. It seems this is the same logic that brought us the Sig Brace. I already have a 12ga AOW so it is more of a curiosity.

Should I wright the ATF technical branch? I know most people usually say don't write them but I'm curious.

What does everyone think?

Thanks, Dan

write a letter to tech branch describing your thoughts.wait for reply.if it's illegal, they will tell you,if it's legal, they will tell you.if you do the legal and get busted by some cop who think they know all,you have the tech branch paperwork for your defense.

easiest way is just buy a flare gun.

If it can chamber and fire a modern shotgun shell, no rifling or cartridge available to claim it is really a pistol that just happens to be able to fire a 12 gauge shotgun shell, well , I believe you would have a hard time convincing anyone that it is legal.
