I really want to order an LMT 14.5" upper assembly, but I called them and they said that the flash hider does not come permanently attached.

Does anyone have one of these (non-SBR) and did it come with a flash hider long enough to be over 16" or is it under 16" with the FH?

How should I go about getting a flash suppressor permanently attached without getting the alphabet soup involved?

Yankee Hill Manufacturing Phantom flash suppressors are long enough that when installed will make the overall complete barrel length about 16.25"

To make the installation permanent one drills and reams two 1/16" blind holes at the back of the suppressor that extend 1/16" into the barrel surface.
Two 1/16" blind pins are press fit into place and ground flush.
Two tack welds are applied over the pins, these are surface ground to blend the welds to the surface of the flashider and the surfaces are final finished.

A gunsmith or machinist can do the work.

On a legal side, before the installation is permanent, I would not even consider installing the upper on any lower that is not registered as a short barrel rifle.
I would not have non registered lower in the same building as the upper until the flashider is permanently installed. HTH

We do the permanent installs on them, as a matter of fact we have a 6.8 SPC M4 upper in right now being done for a customer. Our KA-1222 brake/suppressor added to a 14.5" barrel puts you just over the 16" mark.
