What the hell is rhodium? Are they just making up metals now or have I been in a cave?

This metal finds use in jewelry and for decorations. It is electroplated on white gold and platinum to give it a reflective white surface. This is known as rhodium flashing in the jewelry business. It also may be used in coating sterling silver in order to strengthen the metal from tarnish.

Seems like an easy way to jack up the price.
I want an estimate for Saddam's gold-plated AKs. Those were awesome.

Did the soldiers get to keep them as trophies?

On a side note, do you think a solid gold or silver bullet would damage the rifling in a 1911?

Boberama, I don't think a solid gold bullet would hurt as gold has about the same soft-ness as lead but silver is a bit harder and don't know about it. LM

Who in the world would buy a custom gun with custom grips, and "custom finger grooves that wasn't customized for them? It doesn't even look like their roll mark is even! To top it all off its ugly as sin, and I didn't think I could ever say that about a 1911 that wasn't gold plated. Yuck.

Not much of a presentation for $15-17K guns. Shouldn't they be sitting in a crystal case supported by unicorn horns instead of sitting on a scratched up faux wood laminated table top.
Given them the benefit of doubt by adding an additional $1K for customization to both guns retail prices it seems that plating these guns costs $13 -15K.
Now I know what side business I want to start.

The finger grooves are friggin' ugly.
The gold doesn't do much for me.
Too much bling, too much money.
They might as well glue a pinkey ring on it to complete the gaudy gun. :barf:

For the price, I hope it came with a Gino necklace and a year's free suntanning studio time.

I ran into the site where those guns were listed a few days ago and did a double take when I spotted the 12,000 high power....these must be aimed at gang bangers who need to spend all their drug money on bling because they obviously can't invest it.

Yo yo - want some bling?
Hippity hop, rap rap rap yo yo...

Ah, there's nothing quite like a 1911 smothered in gold.

The gold pimp plating is repulsive. The scroll engraving is a work of art in its own. Maybe not the best platform to show it off but overall the engraving looks good. That kind of scroll work is worth quite a bit more than some stoopid gang banger pimp plating. Anyone can electroplate a piece of steel, it takes an artist to do true inlays and bright cut engraving.
