Between black coffee, and shiftn' gears
Rem 1100 20 ga, with fixed choke improved cylinder barrel, used to sell NIB for $159 plus 3 % sales tax.
I remember, as I bought some of these myself, and in other gauges too.

This about a lady I know, that bought one in 20 ga. for $159 .
Mom & Pop store, said they would cover the tax, tossed in a tin of Browning gun oil, as Rem-Oil was not even thought of yet, much less in the Owner's Manual, box of shells , Goofy looking keyring this couple had come up from somewhere for give-a-ways , and handful of foam ear plugs.

Wood, was beautiful! Bluing perfect! Out of box trigger -sweeet!

Young lady had graduated HS and she had saved her money for one of these, but family said for her to keep her money, and everyone chipped in.
Money was there for a MEC Single stage and with family chipping in hulls , components, little desk for reloading ...etc, this lady was all set.

Her mom and daddy right proud of this gal and so excited to see this Shotgun , and everything else.
Not to mention, another MEC reloader in the house, making 3 total.

Lady could shoot, she started young and was raised right.
Mom, Dad and this Daughter had a ball shooting skeet, they all shot Rem 1100s in 20 gauge, with fixed IC.
With a 20 ga, they could shoot both 12 and 20 ga events.

The guns were the same except for some gun fitting, and they being the way they were, would stick a sticker on one, or tape a cartoon character out of the comic strips...just being a silly, but close family.

This family hunted ducks, geese, felled deer with slugs and whatever else.
Including use at home with these guns.

Daughter got a College scholarship for a year out of state, stayed with a Aunt and Uncle also shooters, and took this 1100.
Again, for home/ property use, hunting, pasture clays, whatever, while gone and of course it traveled back home, back to school with her.

She finished school, came back home to parents and of course had her 1100, reloader and all.

When she moved into that little 2 bedroom house she buying from relatives, she had her home gun, that 1100.

She met a fella, married, he was a jerk, so she divorced him, and all the time had this 1100.
Go off to visit a college friend , that hunted, or shot clays, that had invited her , tote that gun on the road trip, use the gun for game and clays

One time,she
Shows up to hunt Quail with a "Do Not Distrurb" sign hanging off the barrel.
She snagged this from a hotel she stopped along the way to take a restroom break,
College gals friends of her just cracking up laughing...sign actually stayed on for the first quail, which really cracked up the gals, and the dog took off for another covey with this sign on his collar...

Gun still runs, just routine inspect and maintenance, all these years.
It was doing home duty, and everything else, just she decided to let this one rest a bit.
All these years, memories, and sentimental stuff.
Lots and lots of rounds fired through it, just, well, I understand how sentimental a gun can get to where it has earned a rest.

Stupid me asked what she was going to use.
"Hey dingbat, I bought another good used one some years ago just like it, for $150.
Sentimental one is "retired" as you say, but this one is filling the slot now"

Same exact config, just bought right when she snagged it.

"Ya know, they just don't make $159 guns like they used to " she said.

No they don't, that is for damn sure.
