I've recently stumbled upon an advertisement for 15 and 17 round magazines intended for the Browning HP. The description of some indicate they were manufactured under Argentine contract. These appear to have an interchangeable baseplate that allows the user to choose between a 15 and 17 round capacity.

I absolutely like the idea of 4 extra rounds for my HP, but would like to determine the quality of these magazines before I buy.

Thanks in advance!

Don't know about the quality of those magazines.

But, Mecgar has been making 15 round flush fitting magazines for the BHP for several decades and Mecgar is one of the best OEM of magazines.

They are KRD mags. I've found mine, 15 and 17 rounders to be most reliable when loaded down one round. The springs are pretty stiff. I would not say the bases are removeable at all, I even broke one trying to get it off. Mine are for range use only.

Yes I'm sure hey are the KRD mags as jonnyc said. They are often advertised as South African or Argentine...

They are good range mags. I've never had a malfunction out of my (2) at the range but I still don't carry them for self defense.

The springs are SUPER STIFF when you get them. I took mine loaded it up to 15 rounds (I had to use the supplied mag loader after 7-8 rnds) and left it loaded for a week before I went to the range with it and it was still a PITA to load all the way during that range session. Over the past 6 months or so it has gotten a little easier but it is still really tough to load compared to my factory or Meccar 13rnd mags.

Read this page. EVERYTHING you need to know about BHP mags is here.

I've had no problem with the KRD magazines, but I prefer the flush fitting mec-gars for "real" use.

As near as I can tell, the baseplates are not removable without damaging them...possibly permanently. Mine are extremely snug in my FEG PJK-9HP.

Never got the 17 rd KRD mags to work properly in mine.

Ramline 15 shot mag has worked flawlessly.

Ok, thanks for the skinny on these mags. I placed an order for 2 Mec-gar 15 round mags, so I'm set.

I had twenty of the 17rd mags. None of them ever gave me any problems. I sold them a long time ago, but I wish I had not.

I think their spring stiffness is often overstated. But admit to having a preference for strong mag springs.

I wish the baseplate was aluminum or steel instead of plastic. I like the metal follower used in these mags.
