I'm close to pulling the trigger (pun intended) on a Beretta CX4 Storm in 9mm. I'm having trouble determining which model is the newest production. I see the following, plus a whole lot of other SKU numbers:

JX49220M, 15 round 92 series magazine
JSCX003, 10 round 92 series magazine (for California?)
JX49220, 10 round ? series magazine

It appears that some take the 92 series magazine and some take the PX magazines -- I don't have a Beretta handgun (yet), so that's not a huge issue to me. Is there a reason to choose one over the other? If I were to buy a Beretta handgun, is the 92 series higher end than the PX series? It looks like the 92 series has magazines up to a capacity of 30, is that too unwieldy when hanging from the pistol grip of the CX4?

Thanks guys!

You have to consider perspective. I bought a 92s for 300. The fs is more expensive. Look into the differences in action. The 92 series uses the Luger locking block. The PX series uses a rotating barrel. It was a new to cougar design. It's harder to reassemble. My son has a PX on lay away in 40. Once it's paid off I will compare them in a review. I'm not trying to talk you out of either or your cx-4. But I am looking at 9mm carbines too. I will admit I'm partial to beretta autos I have owned a few and loved them. I had a glock also and there is quite a few ar option that use a glock mag. Part of why I say this is cost of parts. A triggergroup for an ar is cheaper than one for the cx 4. I have read they are heavy triggered and the improvement is expensive.

92 magazines are definitely a better than PX4 IF you like the 92FS handgun,

92 magazines are very common and can be very inexpensive. I brought a dozen USGI surplus magazines for $5.00 each. Some of them looked lightly used or never used. When I stripped them for cleaning I discovered a big difference in the length of the springs between mags. I simply replaced the magazine springs with Wolff 10% Extra Power and have only about $10.00 including shipping invested in each one.

Mec-Gar make very high quality magazines. It is easy to stock up on a lot of 92 magazines.

If you seriously think you will get a Beretta handgun down the road choose the magazines that matches the handgun you like.

As far as I know, the CX4 has been available in both versions (1 takes 92 mags, the other takes PX4 mags) from the very beginning. I don't think you can tell which is the newest from the part number.

The 10 round versions are identical to the others, as far as I know, they just ship with 10 round mags for locales that don't allow full-cap mags.

If you don't have either a 92/M9 or a PX4 pistol and don't plan to buy one, then it probably makes the most sense to get the one that takes 92/M9 mags since they are more widely available and cheaper.

If you have plans to buy either a 92/M9 or a PX4, it would make sense to buy the CX4 that takes the same mags as the gun you plan to buy. Blkhrt13 laid out the differences in the two pistols fairly well, but if I were you I'd try to shoot both pistols before making your choice.

By the way, they do sell a kit to convert a CX4 from one mag type to the other--but it's not free, so if you can get the kind you want up front it will save you money.
