Looking around manufacturers' web sites, I've noticed something. They seem to be abandoning the .17M2 completely, in autoloaders, bolt guns, everything.
Marlin no longer lists anything in the cartridge, nor does Ruger. Ruger doesn't even give you a spare cylinder with a .17HMR Single Six. Savage still appears to offer a couple Mark II F variants in .17M2, but that's it.
All of them have a full line of .17HMR guns, though. The .17HMR seems to have become a well-established standard round now.
Do you think that .17M2 will be relegated mostly to custom and modified .22LR guns in the future? It's starting to look that way.
