Good buck, but it sure looks more like an 8 point rather than an 18 point.

It's definately an 18 pointer, it was dark and the angle isn't the best. We had about 30 people stop by the house taking pictures that night and the next day, word spread fast. The head is off to be mounted by a local taxidermist. One of the tines (sp??) broke, they might be able to fix it.
We didn't get our stuff together this year to hunt with muzzleloaders during the rut. Next season we will.

We are actually able to hunt with rifles pre-rut, rut, and post-rut here.

I also hunt in nelson County....never saw a Buck like that!
I have 22 acres over by Shipman.
It backs up to 1300 acres of Westveco land. Where are you hunting in Nelson?

We hunt around the Wintergreen resort area. My uncle has property on the west side of Rt. 151 so we can hunt when the general firearm season starts. We also have family land east of Rt. 151 so we can hunt the later portion of the season (after the season closes for west of 151).
My cousin and I keep kicking ourselves for not getting of stuff together this year and purchasing our muzzleloaders. Some really nice bucks were taken. My buddy jumped 3 big bucks just before sunrise on Nov. 15.

Wintergreen has had some serious deer problems in the last few years. There's plenty of tasty browse there. Meanwhile, most of the public land in VA is less than stellar habitat. Private land is definitely the way to go for deer in VA.

The deer just love grazing and bedding down on Wintergreen's golf courses. Next season I'm going to contact Westvaco about hunting leases on their property.
