Apparently $1800 is the current bid hopefully, its not a real person bidding $1800.It is not a special collector shotgun or a gun used by Hickok45 which some of the money goes to charity. No it is a plain Jane used Mossberg 500 pistol grip shotgun. I would pay $180 for 70% condition and $300 if its brand new. Just wanted to show you guys how crazy an auction on Buds is and makes me question its legitimacy as a whole for its auctions.

The top bidder placed a bid for $500 then outbid himself 25 seconds later, the second lowest bidder was in at $220. I'm thinking someone is fooling around or doesn't know how the online auction works

Maybe someone knows something no one else does about this particular gun.
Like maybe it has a treasure map hidden inside the stock.
It would be pretty funny, and shocking, if the bids were accidental.
I've seen it happen at other live auctions.
"Who Me?"
"I was just scratching my nose - really, no kidding."

I always thought you needed to prove you have the funds before you can even bid to weed out scammers and jokers who wont pay. Someone like Buds should have a red flag system for unusually high bids and check with bidder on its legitimacy. I believe that people can pay what they want but there should be a system in place to prevent unauthorized bids and contact bidder to confirm if the bid is valid and not a system glitch or accident.

Maybe somebody thought it was a case of ten of them.
I guess I made a good investment in that used 500 i got for eighty bucks all those years ago.

My best guess, is that the bidder doesn't realize there is no "auto-bid" feature, and he just actually bid $1800.................wonder if Buds will work with him or hold him to it..

if it does have a treasure map inside the stock then the jokes on them. It's PGO, lol

I saw that when I was checking fathers day deals earlier this morning. Figured it was a typo or someone auctioning a gun their wife told them to sell. "Sorry honey, no one is buying it."

Such a system exists for really high-end auctions run by famous auction houses where items sell for tens of thousands and more. The average run of the mill online auction or estate auction doesn't have such requirements.

I sell quite a bit on Ebay and wish they had a way to make people pay. I get far more deadbeat bidders than I would like and Ebay doesn't have any real system to punish or ban deadbeats.

Some guy selling at the price he told his wife what he paid in order to conceal other firearm purchases

I think it was a costly data entry mistake. I like alternate theories as much as anyone so here is mine.

The post serial number matches the first firearm he owned or it was his fathers or grandfathers and he wants to bring it back home.

Whoever thinks that useless thing is worth $1800 needs better meds. He's on and is cracked.

Someone who would buy a mossberg 500 for $1800 is indeed cracked. But I wouldn't call an M500 useless...

I think he was going for a max bid of 180.00, and accidentally hit an extra zero. I would bet Buds will get with the seller and have them work this out. It happens. A few years back I bid on an unconverted WASR 10, not realizing it was capped at 10 round single-stack mags. I won the bid, then contacted the seller to explain my error. He was extremely gracious, told me to keep my money. We gave each other good feedback and he re-listed the item. I am not banking on that happening again, so I am more careful now.

I had a pistol grip only shotgun once that was really hard to control. It stole a car AND sold drugs to kids. Horrible thing, that.

Strange auction site. They can be precise enough to state the gun condition is 70% but not enough to know that is not a 28" Barrel. But they are a big place and mistakes can be made. But as one guy posted, that is most likely a typo.

Also, of course the bidder meant to enter $180 and of course the site will recognize that mistake as that company has a good name in the business. Since they can make a typo so can a bidder

Even with just standard 2.75" shells, a pistol grip is painful to shoot, and a stout SD shell with that stock configuration, ouch!. Certainly not my cup of tea.

BTW, IMO, 500's are not useless. They're no 870, but they're a pretty solid SG for the money.

I actually prefer them to the 870. While I'm not about to say they're somehow "better" than the Remington, they do fit me better. Some slight difference in stock pattern. I can't hit a barn with an 870, but can usually hit a barn with a 500.
