For sometime I have had a Pietta 1860 that I bought from Cabela's back in the 80's. The gun seemed a little dull and lackluster, used it a couple of times and put it up. After getting a Uberti 1860 which was a lively handling gun in the hand, I decided that the Pietta will become a project gun. The first thing I did was replace the barrel with a 51 44cal Navy barrel, creating a sort of hybrid.

Then Pietta brought out the new improved 51 grip - so that became a must have. Then I thought - conversion! Had to have a Kirst. Then came all the hard hand fitting work, had to replace all of the innards. (Boy want a difference in quality between the new stuff and old). She is done. I may still get a spare 5" barrel in the future.

Great work! That's the beauty about these repro colts, you can do what you did and interchange most of the parts. Tuco would be proud.

Actually, when I installed the 51 barrel the Arbor was too long. So the issue was addressed.

Thank you. Not half bad considering it was all done by hand (no dremel) with a rat tail file and emory cloth.
