so what is the 1851 navy 36c good for if I may ask??Re hunting deer and hogs with a Navy: No, absolutely not. If one is coming at you and a .36 is all you have then use it, by all means, but don't go lookin for it. That would be crazy; really nuts.

with a 460ne behind it maybe lol!!Good for Rebs & Feds, hostile indigenes, sassy bandits, snakes, surly bartenders (for dawdlin’ service) and all manner of small to medium sized quadrupeds. Chimps too, I suppose. You could make your own list of fun facts midland man. If you have any imagination at all - it would be a long one.
I love a Navy and have only complimentary things to say about them, they are an iconic pistol.
I was thinking of taking one of mine to S. Africa next year for cape buffalo. Do you think that would be a good idea, midland? … Midland?

well deer here in Oklahoma are thin skinned as they only weigh around 75-150lbs so I figured for our deer it would work but as I know deer up north are much bigger there! but yeah varmits and such like squirrels, rabbits etc would be fine!James Butler Hickok killed Davis Tutt with one shot with a round ball through the heart at 75 paces with a Colt Navy .36 back in the day. POA, POI.
Davis Tutt was a bit more thin skinned than a bear or deer.

cool story thanks for sharing yeah just imagine what all these pistols had killed etc, since they came out in 1851...Many semesters ago, when I was 17, some friends and I were horseback in the Chocolate Mountains on the CA-NV boarder Mojave Desert area. We were spread out looking for petroglyphs. As I was coming around the base of an incline a male javelina (skunk pig, musk hog or peccary) rushed me from uphill. It was springtime mating season and he was thinking to protect his harem. Those guys can really move.
I got him on top of his head with a beater brass faux Navy using a .375 with about 20 grains of black at roughly 25 yards. It killed him instantly. This fellow looked to be about 65 pounds, maybe 70 (not exactly a Russian boar). I did not find an exit wound. He startled hell out of me and my horse but it was a fine day. A .36 makes a worthy handgun.
jackrabbit this 36 caliber revolvers are fun! plus i agree with your comments to maint1517 i see it all the time just put on the brass and keep going! and jackrabbit i want to get a 32 or 36 caliber flintlock rifle to hunt squirrels withGotta say I don't much care for that fellows comments myself. This forum is about sharing information and insight, don't let some knothead turn you away from it. BTW I took 3 Jackrabbits down today with a 38 special, 2 were over 70 yards. I really gotta get me a 36 cal revolver and try it.
