I rarely snap caps as well. I clean out the chambers the night before I go hunt. If the chambers are dry and you can see through the flash holes you're good to go. BTW I tried the cigarette paper cartridges in one of my ROAs , worked good for first cylinder then on second one a piece of paper got stuck in a flash hole and no bang. Took about 4 caps to get it to go off.

Interesting. I made paper cartridges using American Spirits papers which are very thin and made of flax. I noticed little shards of paper in some of the chambers after firing my ROA and NMA and had a tiny pair of needle nose pliers that I removed them with. Eventually I decided to just keep going to see if they caused issues for me, which they didn’t but I had run out of them after 3 cylinders.

Later I tried saturating a little bowl of water with stump remover but this became very tedious and a little messy so I quickly lost interest.

Here are my hints and tricks for reliable 1858 loading and shooting I mention my expierience with paper cartridges and the right type of lube and why I like natural beeswax/lard versus crisco
