I have a line on an 1873 Trapdoor with a very very low serial number of 84X. It was a first year production and looks okay. As far as I can tell the stock is original and had the correct markings. the rest of the rifle matches. The lock is tight and barrel has good lands the blueing is only 10% at best but not a rusted rifle either. It has the sling and bayonet. Any idea if this is a good buy for $900?

$900 is a decent price, you are not getting ripped off and the seller is doing ok also.

Went hunting with a guy who brought an original Trapdoor. It had a ding in the stock from storage. Other than that, it was 100%.

Yes, 100% blue, looked like it was a brand-new high-quality replica, but it wasn't. I guess it had been packed in grease for a century, then he inherited it. He wanted to use it to hunt with, at least once.

I'd love to have a trapdoor. But his pristine example spoiled me, and I don't even want to know what it would cost to buy one like that if there are many even in existence.:)
