1903 or Turk, Deer or Varmint?

I have a 1903 action and a Turkish Mauser. I want a .22-250 varmint gun and a .260 Rem deer gun for the wife. Which should I use for each? Cost is not an issue as I will do all the work myself, these are by no means in any kind of shape to ever be restored so don't get you panties in a wad about "collector value."

I am just wondering if one is better suited for one application than the other.

For the varminter, accuracy is the biggest factor.

For the deer gun, weight and handling is the biggest.

I will be making custom stocks for each.

"Turkish Mauser" can apply to a number of actions, some of which would not be recommended for any high pressure calibers. The M1903 action also might not be, depending on the serial number.

We need more info.

The Mauser is a Model 38, large ring/small thread (I believe). The 1903 is not in my hands so I am not sure.

SAAMI Max for 22-250 is 65,000 and 260 is 60,000.

If the Turk Mauser is stamped K.Kale, it's a full length action and should be a decent choice for either cartridges, but may not feed the short 22-250 from the magazine.

If it's one of the converted Turks with a notch in the top of the receiver, it's likely a 1903 German made action and will also be fine to use, but is likely the shorter, intermediate length action. As mentioned, there are some other variations, but the K.Kale and the 1903 Turk conversions seem to be the most widely available.

I personally have a Turk K.Kale that I installed a Remington 24" 22-250 barrel on after re-threading myself, but I use a single shot follower in the magazine.

I'm not that familiar with the 1903 Springfields to comment.

Thanks, the action has the thumb cut out and stripper grooves, if that is what you are talking about. It is a K. Kale 1944, and looks like one of the expert smiths at the armory "fixed" the feed ramp.
