Let pretend for a moment that I won the lottery or somehow otherwise came into enough money that I could buy a gun to suit all my needs/wants/desires. Here's my current wish list. Let me know where I'm lacking in critical niches.

Reminton 700 Left hand .243 for Wife (for deer)
Marlin 1894 .44mag (to match my Ruger Redhawk)
Marlin 1894 .357mag for Wife (to match Wife’s backwoods carry gun)
Winchester M70 .375H&H (why not, I may someday go to Africa)
CZ 452 .17MHR (rabbits, plinking)
Single Shot .22 for Kid #1 (teaching kids to shoot)
Single Shot .22 for Kid #2 (teaching kids to shoot)
Single Shot .22 for Kid #3 (teaching kids to shoot)
AR-15 or equivalent (for fun, social situations)
FN-FAL or AR-10 or equivalent (for fun, social situations)

Handguns
Sig P245 (my CCW gun)
Sig P239 (.40S&W) for Wife (CCW gun)
Ruger Single Six (.17 or .22) (rabbits, plinking, teaching kids to shoot)
Ruger GP100 or S&W 686 .357mag for Wife (backwoods carry gun)

Shotguns
Winchester 1300 Defender 12ga (home defense)
Remington 870 (trap/upland bird model)

Already Have:

Rifles
CZ550 American 6.5x55mm (deer/elk)
M96 Swedish Mauser 6.5x55mm (for fun)
T38 Turkish Mauser 8x57mm (for fun – may become a project)
Winchester 190 .22s, l, lr (plinking, rabbits)

Handguns
Ruger P944 (home/self defense)
Ruger Redhawk .44mag (backwoods carry gun)
Charter Arms Undercover .38spl (Wife’s home/self defense gun)

Shotguns
None

Missing-

Ak type rifle
.50 BMG
Garand

I've done the "wish list" thing before and I always end up with the same gun at the top of my list ...... a BAR.

Umm there is no 1911's on your list and if you win the lottery i'll take an FN-FAL thank you

For a lotto list, that is pretty short. :D

If I let myself go like that, I would have quite an arsenal. I would have to set aside a whole room just to store them. Not to mention the ammo I would have to get.

I would add: (pardon me if I repeat some listed above)
One or two VEPR or other AK
44 mag revolver or two (S&W, Colt, Ruger)
Desert eagle big bore - probably 44 mag
M1A sniper rifle
M1A from Fulton or Armscorp
Rem 700 hyper accurate rifle - or substitute
50 BMG or two
45/70 Sharps and/or 45/120 (just because)
AR-10
AR-10B from Armalite
another AR-15 - Bushmaster?
CMP - 1903, M1 correct or collectors, lots of ammo
Sig .45 and 9 mm
XD 9 mm - don't have one yet.
A custom 1911 from Kimber or other (I want to see the difference)
A couple more nice ParaOrdance P14's or their Carry 12
H&K P7M13
A new P7M8
HK 91 variant
FAL - DSA probably
XCR from Robarms with all the extra barrel change out sets
Semi-auto Thompson, BAR, and maybe that Browning 30 caliber machine gun just for fun.

There are lots of full auto choices. Haven't thought too much along those lines.
I could probably think of more with time. This doesn't mention anything I might get for my Dad or brothers or all the ammo I would feel obligated to have on hand if the SHTF.

I would definitely need to buy some land of my own out somewhere to shoot and a warehouse to store weapons and ammo. :D

I heard at one time there was a max limit on the number of rounds of ammo a regular individual could own before the BATF considered your collection to be a military arsenal or something. Anyone know if that is true or what the limit is?

For a lotto list, that is pretty short. :D
Well, I am still a pragmatic engineer type.
Ak type rifle
.50 BMG
Garand
Never been a huge fan of AK's. Garand's are cool, can't believe I left that off. .50's I'm ambivilent about right now. Were there a national ban attempt, then sure.

I intentionally left off full-autos just becuase, while they're fun, there's not much practical use. If we get to TEOTWAWKI then I reckon full-auto's will either be issued or won't be that hard to scrounge up.

Umm there is no 1911's on your list
Just can't seem to get fired up over 1911's (or Glocks for that matter).

A plasma rifle in the 40 watt range and a tactical nuke in a backpack.

You definately need:

Barrett m82
Desert Eagle
Armalite Ar50
Serbu BFG 50 Carbine
Serbu BFG 50 Rifle
Barrett m95
Barrett m99
Smith and Wesson 500
Browning M-2
Windrunner M96

If you win the lotto can you buy all of these for me please.

Did you forget the part about "pragmatic engineer"? That's at least 7 .50BMG's plus a .50AE, .500S&W (both of which are wrist breakers) and whatever .50 cal the Windrunner M96 is chambered for.

My reasonable wish list...things I actually will buy over time.

Rifles:
Already have my 16" dissipator modular carbine
SBR registered Bushmaster M97S "PDW" w/ front vert grip and stock (don't think I can have SBRs in WA...if not it goes on my wishlist)
M1A with wooden furniture
Remington 700 w/ AICS

Shotgun:
Saiga-12 "combat shotgun", already have
Mesa Tactical modified Mossberg 590 or Remington 870

Pistols:
Springfield Armory Loaded Operator TRP
Springfield Armory XD40
Mateba Unica-6 semi-automatic revolver w/ 8" in .454 or .44 mag...if I can find a dealer. Borderline wishlist.

A few goodies I'd like to be able to afford or justify owning...an actual wish list:

ZM Weapons LR-300...mmm folding stock
SVI Infinity IMM Modified 1911 or Hybricomp...mmm incorporated optics
SVI Infinity Tiki tianium 1911...mmm featherweight
M1A SOPMOD...modular goodness
EDM Arms Windrunner XM107 Model 96 50 BMG, takedown model
AMP Technical DSR-1 , .2MOA rifle

Haven't had much time to make an actual wishlist on paper...because I'd become much too depressed in making it.

...already depressed looking at the list...long ways to go!

Go ahead and try. It will make you feel better.

Or seriously depress me. :(

But, I'll play.

I would have to get at least one 1911 from all of the top custom shops so that I can conduct a long detailed side by side study of each one.

I may add an AR is SBR format, and M3 greasegun, and a few suppressors as the only NFA items.

A big second on getting land for my own private range.

I like Dfaugh's idea...

But I'd start with a Pagani Zonda, then a Lamborghini Murcielago, Ferrari 575, F50, F40, F430, F360 Challenge Stradale, Porsche 959, Carrera GT, RUF Yellowbird, Nismo Skyline, Jun Supra, BMW E60 M5.

Then maybe a gun here and there if I have any money left. But a new Yost 1911 will be amongst it. Hell I'll have another 1911 by Jacobson, Vickers, etc... :D

Windrunner are chambered in 50 bmg also. They are the only 50 caliber rifles that takedown and fit in a briefcase. If I had unlimited money those are the guns i'd buy :D

If I'm to indulge my car side, I'll pick some of the following which have already established themselves as timeless cars. Left out more popular picks like 'vettes, Impalas, Bel-Airs. No one will care about the ugly Murcielago in 10 years, its got no soul or heritage...my opinion. :)

1929 Cadillac Series 75 V-16 Fleetwood
1931 Dussenberg
1937 Bugatti Atlantic
1965 427 AC Cobra
1965 Ford GT40
1967 Shelby GT500 Mustang Fastback
1969 Ford Mustang Boss 429
1970 Plymouth Hemi 'Cuda AAR Most. Beautiful. Car. Ever
1971 Plymouth Hemi 'Cuda, also lovely
1972 Pantera DeTomaso
1992 Jaguar XJ220
1992 McLaren F1, no LM, GT, or GTR.

Anything newer and it's hard to tell if it'll remain collectible or just a "one off" model that never really got any love. Ferrari and Lamborghini have really been cranking out too many models lately. Maybach may not catch on. Bugatti's Veyron is way too funky, but time will tell.

Modern indulgement for myself, 2002 Lotus Exige and make them legal in the US or a 2005 Shelby GT 500

Oh yes, and of course a complimentary firearm for each vehicle, painted to match it's exterior paint or relate to each somehow. I'll have to get a Bushmaster Carbon-15 for the McLaren, and a big polished nickel Colt Python revolver for the Fleetwood :D

Many many more semi-auto rifles and carbines. I would want to be the guy people think of when the gov. and media mentions 'nut with an arsenal' on TV :D

Hmm, if I won the lottery I probably wouldn't buy anything exotic (at least not at first), but mainly stuff that I'll probably eventually own anyway.

Here's the list:

-A real SAA (no clones since with the lottery I could afford the real deal)
-A few more lever rifles (a 45-70 Marlin, a Navy Arms, and either a Winchester or Marlin in .44mag and .357mag)
-An M1 Carbine
-An M1 Garand
-A really nice O/U or SxS 12ga
-A Valtro
-A Kimber CDP in either 3" or 4"
-A few more .41mags (I love my M57)
-A .44mag or three
-A Kahr PM9
-A few more 2" snubs in various calibers (9mm, .32H&R mag, and .38spl)
-A BHP
-An HK P7 varient (not sure which one)
-My own shooting range

Outside guns my first thoughts are a house in VA and PA where the gun laws are better (though I'd probably maintain a house in MD), paying for my education (both grad school tuition which is coming up and paying off my student loans), some time in yeshiva (a religious school), a nice but low key boat (maybe ~25'), and a couple nice but fairly low key cars (a Jag S-type, an Acura, some kind of SUV, keep but pay off my Hyundai Sonata) before the money ran out.

RIFLES/CARBINES:
M1 Garand
M1A
M1 Carbine
FAL

Heckler&Koch USP
H&K USP compact
H&K P7M8
Springfield Armory GI-Issue 1911 hicap
SA Mil-spec 1911, parkerized
SA 1911, somthing expensive just because i can buy it

Desert Eagle 6" in .357Mag, .44Mag, and .50AE. also a scope.
1911 chambered in .50GI
Beretta 92/96. perhaps the J92F560, to be specific.
Beretta Tomcat

SHOTGUNS:
Remington 870 12g.
Mossberg 500 12g. with rifled & smooth barrels
some SxS's and OU's... not sure of made/gauge.

then, of course, the biggest, baddest, heaviest, strongest safe with padded tumblers and possibly a 4-digit combo and not just 3.

and, there are more, but i probably just faven't though of them yet.

I intentionally left off full-autos just becuase, while they're fun, there's not much practical use.
You mean, no practical use other than the fact they keep climbing in value?

i probally wouldn't buy too many more guns... i'd build a bunker and fill it with ammo, tannerite, and lots of stuffed animals...

I can't get worked up over cars. I guess it is my pragmatic engineer side. Guns are another story though.

Women may be another story also, but that is probably not for the High Road. :D
