I could use some help from you experts on military rifles. I have a 1903 serial number 268591. I have not fired it, nor have I inspected the bore. The action seems to functions as it should. My question is: can I shoot this rifle? Is it more valuable to sell and replace with another more useful shotgun/rifle? How do you sell and expect to get a fair value for the rifle? I know that certain of these rifles where heat treated and put back into service. Comments are greatly appreciated. Yes, I have an excellent gunsmith available to disassemble, clean and check for safety. Bill

RIA # 268591 is a "low number" - case hardened, single heat treat - 1903.
Some people do not consider these safe to fire. A few do.

If it is unaltered, it is worth something to a collector.
