What do you mean by match shooting? There are specific matches for antique military rifles that these are great in and some fun matches also. I wouldn't choose this as my NRA High Power Rifle of choice. With a new barral, upgraded sights and a match trigger this can be a great rifle but some of the antique matches restrict these.

I really like mine.

has anyone here used a 1903a3 for match shooting cause im interested in starting match shooting and i like the a3 sights some input would be nice

My Gun Club has once a year old bolt gun matches on the 100 yard range.

If you are shooting either 100 yards or 200 yards you can get the A3 nicely centered by playing around with front sight heights and the 100 and 200 yard positions on the rear.

However, the rear sight is not infinitely adjustable for elevation. The difference between the 200 yard and 300 yard setting is 3 MOA (about). The jumps get bigger the further you go out which means at longer ranges you will always have troubles getting your elevation correct.

If you plan to shoot out to 600 yards, going 200, 300 and 600 yards, getting a good elevation zero will be difficult. That is why guys who used to use the A3 took the rear sight off and put on a Lyman 48S. That way they could make ½ MOA elevation and windage adjustments all the way out.

I would recommend replacing the main spring with a new 20 lb Wolff. Original mainsprings are worn out and lost any reasonable compression.

At 100 and 200 yards I have always shot the A3 better than the 03 even though I have a P.H. O’Hare micrometer and the windage is adjustable on the 03.
