good source for 30-06?

Ok Steve has convincedme to try a hi-power match.

I'm going to use my Remington 1903a3. Rather than shoot up all my good 165gr handloaded hunting ammo.. I'm thinking of buying some surplus 150gr fodder.

Anyone know a good source?

Just for punching holes.

Ammoman.com's got both Korean and Danish on Garand clips. Don't know about the Korean, but I've been real happy with the Danish stuff.

Note: The Danish FMJ ammo is great stuff and that would be my first choice in "surplus" ammo for range work.

Beware of Korean ammo, as the KA headstamp is corrosive. PS headstamp is not. PS -- Seems to be accurate and reliable enough for punching holes.

Indian surplus ... avoid all together.

Sir, most CMP matches will provide you 30.06 ammo for a nominal fee. I was given 55 rounds of Lake City in clips and bandoliers recently for a $10 entry fee. Another club I belong to will give you 50 rounds of LC for the match for $10. All less than you can buy it for now. One club sold me a double handful of clips for a dollar - they have three 55 gallon oil drums full of them.

The Danish ammo is great stuff, and varies in age from 60's to 91. The stuff on strippers tends to be older. Berdan primed, not reloadable. I bought three cases for $146 a case and sold some of the clips and bandoliers on eBay to recpup some of the cost.

The ammo available for under $100 for 400 rounds is Korean. It is reloadable, and some people report decent accuracy, while others do not. Note well the caution about corrosive headstamps.

There are several commercial rounds that are loaded very similarly to M2 Ball. Federal American Eagle is 150 gr. boat tail and is available for around $0.36 to $0.40 per round. PMC Bronze Line is also similar to M2 Ball.

Ammoman currently shows $365 for 1,008 rounds, including clips, bandoliers, and shipping. That's $0.36 per round. It's the good stuff, though - AMA 91.

The best price I got was at MidwayUSA, $163 delivered for 624 = $0.26 per round.

Commercial ammo is about 40 cents, without clips or bandoliers.

You can sell the clips for $0.50 each or more, which would cut $0.06 per round out of the cost.
