Who makes a good quality .22 kit for the 1911 ive looked into the Marvel kits Kimber and Tactical Inc ive eliminated the Kimber because it doesnt have a slide hold open last shot feature

are there any others i should look into?
im leaning toward a Tac Inc but im not 100% on the decision yet

what would you choose and why?

I recently shot a friends Colt 1911 with a Colt conversion and really liked it. He was telling me how this was designed to have felt recoil. I'm going to be keeping my eye out for one when the funds allow it.

Marvel doesn't lock back either. I have one, and like it. It works most reliably with CCI Stingers, which have been scare the last year or so (at least at Wallyworld).

Check out randgfirearms.com Gary has a Colt that was customized by Wilson. I think he wants $599. I have been doing business with him for almost 30 years, great guy to deal with.

None of the aluminum slides are designed to lock back. The SS would batter the slide in pretty short order. I believe the Tactical Solutions (steel slide) locks back.

My Marvel works with the cheapest ammo I can find - Remington Thunderbolt.

hmm ok well i deffinatly want a slide stop because i want it to function as close to the normal 1911 as possable

how about magazine availability when you get these kits are you stuck with just the mag from that company or are they interchangeable i.e. ciener mags with a marvel kit etc

I just got an Advantage Arms conversion after a 15 week wait. It locks back on empty mags. I had to do a bit of shaving on the polymer mags to get them to drop free of the gun, could of been just my gun, but now I have shot about 300 rounds through the gun and had only one shell not go off, but every round shot and ejected perfectly. Mine was the target model, as they were having problems with the standard model being entirely reliable.

wow the tactical solutions magazines are WAY expencive
why are they $75? do they load themselves lol
thats a sad thing because i was really considering that kit

I have a dedicated Chiappa 1911-22 clone, which costs less than a Kimber conversion and has full controls (including a last shot hold open).

What is your desired use of the conversion?

I ask, as some such as the Marvel are set up for quality Bullseye Match accuracy and the ability to hold the slide back after the last round fired is meaningless.
You really don't need a slide lock on any semiauto pistol. Unless you have a 22LR that should not be dry fired.
The Marvel conversion is set up to allow dry firing.

Why by a .22 conversion for $300-400 when you can get a Puma .22 1911 for $280?

I have the Kimber conversion on my Kimber and also wish it had last shot lock feature ..... but the gun is too accurate and too much fun for that to be a deal breaker for me.

will anyone elses magazines work with the Tactical Solutions kit?

does anyone else make a hold open model?

i want the same function as any other 1911

I suggest Advantage Arms, the slide locks back on the last round, $275 I think for the standard version and $25 for mags.

I have the AA Glock 20-21 kit right now and love it, plenty accurate and very reliable with decent ammo.

anyone here own an AA kit?

why a lighter hammer spring?

wouldnt a heavier spring be more possative for ignition?

I had an AA Glock kit, not a 1911 kit. It was tight, needed a lot of break-in, one magazine worked better than the other.

The idea of a lighter mainspring is to be able to use more kinds of ammo. Conversion kits like hot ammo because the slide is heavier than the bolts on most .22 autos, and they need more force to push the slide back. The main thing they have to push against is the mainspring holding the hammer down. If you put a lighter one in, it should be able to cycle more kinds of ammo, letting you run cheaper stuff than Stingers, Velocitors, and mini-mags. (I mostly use mini-mags now.) I have considered building a dedicated frame for mine, and experimenting a little with different MS weights to find the lightest one that gives reliable ignition.

that makes sence thanks for that... i just had a duh moment lol

im leaning to the AA kit but just for argument sake which would you guys prefer the AA or the TacSol?

AA's site claims a 14 week backlog and the 2 local dealers listed on their site are out of business. Any other options with a locking slide?
