Hi all,

Does anyone know if there are problems using federal bulk pack ammo in the Advantage Arms 22 conversion kit?

Thanks.

Can't speak to the AA conversion kit, but I have used the Colt conversion Units with floating chambers since around 1963. The one I now have is from the 70s. Use the wrong ammo and it can plug up in as few as 25 rounds.

The best ammo I have found for it is the Federal 38 grain AE22 high velocity hollow point. I have not done an exact round count, but since I started using this stuff (I just bought two more cases) I am running 300 rounds plus through the gun before cleaning it. My standard test is to open the slide; if the floating chamber drops to the rear freely when the muzzle is in the vertical position it is good for a while longer. Thus far it has not plugged up at all--I clean it because I choose to, not because it needs it.

This ammo seems to burn very cleanly, leaving just a light ash behind--and very little of that.

I do seem to get the very occasional misfire with this in a Ruger Standard .22 auto.

I was just wondering, because the ammo they recommend on the web site is either Remington golden bullet or CCI mini-mags, neither of which are very inexpensive (as far as rimfire ammo is concerned).

Thanks.

I've fired a couple hundred CCI Mini Mags through my old Colt Ace conversion unit; no problems. Same with Remington "Golden Bullets." :)
My son locked it up with one magazine of CCI Blazers!
I had to use padded pliers to twist the floating chamber apart, and a brass scraper to remove the caked lead flakes from the chamber!
Non-plated ammo and floating chambers do not mix!

Standard chambers should be no more ammo-sensitive for a conversion unit than for any other .22 pistol.
