Hi,

I'm newly registered here and would like to know if anyone has converted a G17 to a .22? I have a Walther P22 which is real ammo specific (CCI Mini-Mags) but I love to shoot it. The Glock, which is new to me, is a complete blast to shoot, but I'm running into difficulty finding 9mm (I know everyone is) and thought I might be able to shoot bulk pack Federal through a conversion kit fairly inexpensively.

So:
Is this a stupid idea?
Will a conversion kit really accept bulk .22's?
Should I just wait out the ammo thing and hope it becomes more available?
If a kit is a good idea, which one?

Thanks in advance for anyone who can help.

No matter how available 9mm becomes, .22 will always be cheaper.

I have owned the AA Glock kit. It came with two magazines, and one worked better than the other. It needed a long break-in, about 500 rds, but I'm learning that this is fairly standard for conversion kits. The guy I sold it to says it still runs great with either mag. I have found that you want to use hot ammo, since the slide is somewhat heavy. I use Stingers, Velocitors, and Mini-mags when I use conversions. A good deal? Sure. 10-1? Not really.

I have the AA conversion kit for my Glock 26 and I like it a lot. I likely -will not- function correctly with "bulk" 22lr ammo (at least mine doesn't). As stated prior CCI mini-mags are a sure thing. I bought a bunch of them on sale, so haven't really had a need to experiment with anything else.

Since shooting the Glock well is mainly a trigger thing, the time spend with 22lr translates directly to when I use it in 9mm.

Swapping from one to the other takes maybe a hot 10 seconds. If you own/shoot the Glock for any length of time, the conversion will more than pay for itself in the cost difference between 9mm and 22lr ammo.

I have an AA kit also reduced the recoil spring runs like a top with fed and win bulk. I ordered another barrel and threaded it for a suppressor, very fun and so light it feels fake.

Do you lose any accuracy by using this type of conversion kit? How about the magazines, do you have to buy custom mags or will 22 rounds fit in the normal 9mm mag?
