I'm about to take a Kimber Custom II to a gunsmith to optimize it for bullseye shooting.

Over the last 4 years, it shot over 10.000 manufactured FMJ rounds (flawlessly I must say).
From now on, the pistol will shoot only LSWC with reduced loads.

1st question:
I'll ask the gunsmith to expertise the barrel, but even though there wouldn't be any significant wear and tear sign, would this be a good time to replace the barrel with a brand new one?

Here's a list of the jobs I plan:
  • Remove existing sights, mount RRA cover-up rib.
  • Match bushing fitment
  • Roll trigger (kcskustomcreations.com) installation
  • Recoil and mainspring replacement with correct weight
  • Tune extractor for 90° ejection with reduced loads
  • General accurizing service
2nd question:
Does all this make sense?

3rd question:
Did I forget something?

Thank you for your advice,

Replacing the barrel with a high quality match barrel such as a Bar-Sto will go a long way toward an accurate 1911. Fitting the slide to the frame tightly is Very important for consistent accuracy. Installing high quality hammer & sear from a highly reputable firm is also a good idea. You can get the minimum and consistent trigger pull weight without the danger of doubling or hammer dropping when you drop the slide with an aftermarket hammer & sear. (read, remove the lawyers from your trigger) Do not try to go cheap, you will regret it in the end as you spend more $ chasing accuracy.
