I went to the couple of local gun stores today, as I am in the market for a 1911 style pistol to add to my collect. Price is of a major issue, so I am limited as to what I can look at (550.00 is about as high as I can go).

I have eliminated a few options already for a couple of different reasons that I will not get into, but I have eliminated the AutoOrdinance and Rock Island.

The guns that I am down to at this point are the following:

1911-A1 Stainless Steel Springfield Armory (499.99)
1911-A1 Blued Springfield Armory (459.99)
Kimber BP Ten 5" Blued (539.99)
Dan Wesson Pointman (549.99)

(Crazy outside change or blowing the load for the GSR 1911 and trading in a few toys, but that is a different story...)

Now, here is the odd part, on this web site, Dan Wesson's website, or any other website for that matter, I cannot find the gun that I saw today...

It was a beautiful Dan Wesson 1911, pricetag called it a Pointman, wood grips, High Polish on the Blue Slide, nice trigger, extended beavertail, very nice looking gun, slide pulled back very smooth and everything felt tight.

The feature that stood out was that the forward and rear sight serrationas were "V" shaped pointing backwards... All of the ones that I can find images of are the normal slanted type...

What did I see and it is odd or special addition?

Please let me know... thank you...

Dave Pruitt

The model you saw is the Pointman Dave Pruitt. They are no longer produced, but from everthing I've read, are fine guns.
Go to 1911forum.com and search Dave Pruitt . I own two Dan Wesson 1911s. A Patriot Marksman and a Razorback, and I'm EXTREMELY happy with both of them.

Good Shoot'n

That sounds like a Dave Pruitt model to me too. I have a 10mm Pointman Major, and it is my favorite handgun. Dan Wesson makes fine 1911's for the money, and their customer service is outstanding.
It would not surprise me though if you were to run across a Dan Wesson 1911 that was not a production item. They sell their prototypes, and still offer the full waranty on them. I was told by the president of Dan Wesson Firearms that my Pointman is a prototype pistol, and possibly a one of a kind.:D

Yep.......for 549.00$ you would have gotten a pretty sweet deal. The gun has a small amout of checkering on the front strap and chevron slide grooves. NICE NICE gun......................

Go back tomorrow and see if its still there..........and GET IT!

Shoot well.

My parents have the D.P. model. You should notice that it has a ramped barrel, which is not the standard for a 1911. Theirs is a little finicky feeding hollowpoints.

The problem with the ramped barrels seems to affect a lot of the Dave Pruitt models. Dan Wesson will take care of it, or you can have a smith recontour the feed ramp. Or, you might get lucky and the gun will function fine with hollowpoints. I really like the styling of the Dave Pruitt models. They have the cast frame, if you want a forged frame go for one of the Patriot models which can be had for about $699 in stainless in my area.

Other choice might be a SW1911, but some don't like the safety.
