I watched the linked video from start to finish twice and repeated different portions several times. Here are my observations and responses. BTW, I am a Glock fanboy who started out match shooting with a modified Norinco/Wilson Combat 1911/Sig 226 then liked XD and fell in love with M&P. I also serviced new/worn 1911 pistols for my unit when I was in the Army.
James Yeager said:
All guns should be Glocks
Within seconds, he starts the video with the above comment. Well, this kinda puts a slant for the rest of the video ...
That phrase is followed by:
A 1911 that works regularly is just as rare as a Glock that doesn't.
So much for anticipating a "fair and objective" review/comments from a "
professional" trainer who supposedly trained 15,000 students who fired a combined 15 million rounds ...
Out of the box Glock ... will work every time ... Out of the box 1911 ... will rarely
I am certainly not an expert on 1911s/Glocks like Mr. Yeager, but have shot several hundreds of thousands of rounds, particularly at USPSA match conditions, with various pistols including 1911s and Glocks (in 9mm, 40S&W and 45ACP calibers). After having made match condition observations the past 17 years, I would not make such definitive statements as Mr. Yeager as I have seen all makes and models of pistols experience failures and/or breakages, including Glocks and revolvers.
Instead of saying "Out of the box Glock will work every time", I would prefer to say, "With proper cleaning, lubrication and maintenance, looser combat tolerance Glocks may provide more reliable operation than some other tighter tolerance target 1911s, especially when dirty."
1911 points right because YOU changed the gun ... before you changed the mainspring housing to a flat one, it was like a Glock, the way it was supposed to be
Well, various 1911s (with or without the flat mainspring housing) have pointed naturally for me (I point with my eyes closed and when I open my eyes, sights are always right on) along with Berettas, Sigs, CZs, HKs and even Taurus but I need to "torque" my grip for Glocks to point on target. Since I have shot a lot of Glocks, I have "assimilated" Glock grip angle but when I was trained to do point shooting in low light conditions, Glock grip angle definitely showed deviation from POA to POI whereas 1911s pointed more naturally "for me" for same POA to POI.
There are plenty of good guns that aren't Glocks ... Production line 1911 just is not one of them
Production line Sig 1911 TacPac I bought and production line RIA Tactical my friend bought last year both have over 5000+ rounds of various factory and reloads shot through them and I would consider them to be "good guns" that shot reliably and certainly more accurately than any Glock I have shot, including G21. Of course, this is only my opinion based on my experience.
I am gonna have hundreds of guys posting here 'My 1911 works' ... Nobody gives a sh*t if your 1911 works
This is partly true as my individual experience with a particular pistol may be different from someone else with a different pistol with different ammunition, usage condition, cleaning, lubrication, maintenance, etc. However, his statement immediately turned me off to his character and his position as a trainer. I certainly would not recommend anyone to his training class.
So if hundreds of guys/gals posted "My Glock doesn't work" out of the box because they "limp wristed", he would not give a sh*t also? (That's been my experience with new shooters and I tell them about this inherent "issue" that's typical of Glock perfection) I wonder what he would say to a student who showed up with a Gen4 Glock with stiff recoil spring issue that failed to cycle the slide and experienced FTF/FTE with factory target ammunition? Maybe he would tell them to stop shooting defective factory ammo and use quality/premium +P ammunition?
Don't bash me for my opinion because it's based on my history
And this disclaimer at the end is supposed to address all the improper/incorrect information he stated during his video?
My take away from the video is that he may be trying to discourage 1911 owners from taking his training class because he may have to work extra/harder to deal with new shooters due to 1911 related issues (such as safety, etc.) compared to more simpler operation Glock with no external safety.
