What do you guys think of this 870 review video?

I've watched several of his reviews and he seems like the epitome of a "mall ninja" who likes to hear himself talk.

I kind of like his videos because they're filmed in HD and show lots of shooting. I guess I just like the action, and don't really pay attention to what he says. I mean he gets thumbs up for that right?

I tried to watch it, but I was blinded by the mans amazing skill in shooting stationary targets with a shotgun.

Got about 3 minutes in :(

I could only stomach 8 minutes....."A dirth of information".

I'll let people with more experience review the actual content of his review.

I think his videos get high ratings because they're in HD and the editing is pretty good. Also, the camo outfits make everything look all officials. I agree with the poster above about the shooting at stationary targets. Somehow, they manage to take something that's relatively easy and make it look pretty cool. I generally have a problem with the length of his videos, but you don't see too many other people taking the time to make videos of this audio/video quality. I personally don't have the time. Is he independently wealthy, or is he getting paid to make these videos?

Hey,

Might as well support a fellow gunnut right? Whether we agree or not about what he says, he still supports guns.

Yeah, we can support the guy. However, I'd like to point out a broader issue. With the Internet and sites like Youtube, all kinds of different people are able to manufacture expertise. Someone like Nutnfancy can use their audio/visual skills to generate a cult following. After awhile they have a channel that's official looking with thousands of subscribers. That person can then go out into the real world and market themselves to land various jobs by referencing their Youtube channel.

I don't know much about the qualifications of Nutnfancy in particular. I'm just speaking generally. The Internet is a good thing because anybody with a computer and a camera can have a voice. At the same time, the Internet is a bad thing because anybody with a computer and a camera can have a voice.

frankly, I like his videos. hard to find good videos about guns on the internet, if nothing else, you can ogle it for 10 - 20 minutes :)

I felt his views on impending gun control seemed well informed http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hlcj-7OgTjA

One thing I have found that I don't like are that his gun reviews tend to be a lecture against a checklist. I feel they are shallow, there is no field stripping, there is nothing to look at except a motionless gun and a listen to a long spiel. In the past (I discovered this guy a while ago) I only watched a few of these reviews before I got quite sick of them. His ak-47 vs ar-15 is a prime example of this. I want to see illustration of strengths and weaknesses through field strip and active shooting. So while I sat through his videos mildly interested that's as good as it got. I haven’t watched any of his vids for quite a while now.

I certainly don't think he is a mall ninja. He seems down to earth and sensible.

Sure, I support him to have his guns, but that doesn't mean I should support his reviews. Look at other people on Youtube with videos on guns, and tell me if you want to support their videos.

I certainly don't think he is a mall ninja.

He did say he was in the military for something like 19 years, but didn't say what his background in the military was. He might have been a JAG officer for all I know that only shot to qualify once a year. Even if he has some MN leanings, at least he was in the Army.

But, wearing ACU's to go shoot is a bit of a MN thing to do, IMO.

I've seen a couple of his videos and all I have to say is that they strike me as strictly amateur fair.

I've got to say it's one of those things you watch and feel embarassed for the person that is speaking.

I agree with hags, lot's of rambling on about this and that seems to take him forever to cover simple things.

Doesn't help that his "warrior face" is a pretty lame perma-frown....:scrutiny:

This is no Mall Ninja. He is a good voice on the internet, don't try to tear that down. Much better than 90% of the other junk out there.:)

Well, if you're looking for that type of gun review on youtube maybe.

I'd much rather search, lurk, join, post or just read any of a number of online sights such as............THR, M4car, Shotgunworld, rimfirecentral, benchrestcentral etc.............for info on a particular firearm, ammo, caliber, etc.

Why does his 870 sound so crisp and light when he pumps it? It sounds very effortless? My 870 express sounds heavy when I cycle the action. Like heavy pieces of metal locking into place. Why does the guy's in the video so slick?

That Express can be made just as slick. The stamped sliding/mating parts tend to have a rough edge on them. You can disassemble the gun and take a fine Arkansas stone and slightly "break the edge" on those stamped parts and that will help. Be careful. You don't really want to remove an appreciable amount of metal.

Also, cycle/shoot the heck out of it. It'll slicken up with use and time.

I think that his videos are alright. Yeah he talks about doing neighborhood patrols, and runs around in his ACU's, but his info is some of the best on the site. And him wearing gloves is weird, but I'm sure that people would get tired of just looking at his hands after a few videos. He does put a lot of time into his vids and does his research and uses the stuff before he talks about it. I think that he knows what he's talking about, and is as unbiased as someone with experience can be. Overall I like his stuff and have watched a few of his things.
