1911 Grip Panels

I seem to remember the Colt Delta Elite models came with rubber grips, always thought they looked pretty good.

As they say, it's your gun, do what you'd like with it.

Rubber grips on a 1911 are about as soul-less as you could possibly get. I can tolerate rubber grips on a revolver as they do a great job of absorbing recoil, but on a 1911 they are about as cheap and cheesy looking as you can get in my opinion.

The most comfortable grips I've had on a 1911 were the rubber set that came with a Pro Carry II I had years back, would have put them on other guns if I could have found another set at the time.

But, now, all my 1911s wear G10s, the more aggressive the better. Wood checkered just doesn't give me enough grip, and smooth is right out.

All of mine that don't have front strap checkering get skateboard tape as well.

Super-aggressive VZ on a TRP, classic rosewood double-diamonds on my CBOB. I do like VZ's use of linen and canvas micarta, nice natural texturing.

I cant wait till I get a 1911 again so I can play grip swap on boring sundays.

Flame maple? Diamondback? Walnut? Purpleheart? Jasper? Yes please.

I personally don't care for rubber grips. They just give the impression that the grip is sticky/tacky (tacky like tape, not style). I like the look of wood best, though plastic don't really bother me (and plastic does tend to be a bit less prone to cracking).

Photos of one specimen with the Pearce grip panels. These feel better to me than any other grip panel. I have 27 sets of grips and stocks going to eBay.

I like the looks of various wood and other hard materials on a 1911 pistol.

But, for shooting, my 1911's have Pachmayr Signature grips. The rubber grips do not move in my hands under recoil. When I buy a new 1911, a set of Pachmayr grips is always the next purchase.

This my preference and I expect that others have other likes and dislikes when it comes to 1911 grips.

P.S., I'm a fan of arched mainspring housing on my 1911's as well.:)

1911's feel a little small in my hands, and I don't get a good, repeatable grip with GI style grips.
So my soul-less Gov't 'style' 9mm stainless pistol wears Hogue wrap around rubber.
My long fingers lock in 'just right' on that grip when combined with a flat MSH.

Those actually are not ... awful. They do retain the traditional checkered double-diamond look. I had thought, based on your OP, that you were speaking to the ugly plain black strangely-textured Hogue stocks, the fuglier original Pachmayr wraparounds or something like what Colt used for a while.

My Dan Wesson Heritage 1911 came with Hogue double-diamond checkered rubber grips. I think they look and feel just right!

Definitely prefer wood, smooth doesn’t bother me at all. @army_eod I may have to hunt down your auctions.

“Servile insurrection” is the crime of rubber grips on a 1911; one must surrender to local authorities for man card confiscation. However, the Executive Man Board recognizes that they are your 1911’s and as such....,

Starbucks would have disappeared long ago if they relied on me. Black coffee and a pinch of Skoal is my daily breakfast. Admittedly I like nice wood.

So far I am liking these G10 grips I put on mine yesterday. The texturing is smooth yet aggressive so it should be comfortable to carry IWB. The frame needs to be refinished so this is still a project gun.

I have a long hand. The Hogue / Pachmeyer finger groove rubber grips are perfect for me. They give the 1911 grip just that little bit of extra girth that makes it perfect for my hand and the finger grooves make for an easily repeatable hold. I also like the extra contact area the finger grooves provide... I get a more secure grip with less hand force which seems to improve my aim.
