1911 - My favorite platform in an auto. The connection between a human and the handgun is where the 1911 prevails. Those would be the trigger and ergonomics. Good sights can be put on almost anything, but a great trigger and ergonomics need to be built at the drawing board.

1911

Mine's a Colt Commander XSE in stainless. Just got it a month ago and I've sent about 250/300 rounds down range so far. It's been flawless. Takes me back to my military days, when I had to qualify yearly with the 1911. What a great pistol.

RIA Tactical Range Raport

Possum - It was flawless when I first bought it for about 300rds of S&B 230gr ball ammo. Someone on m1911.org told me about how good Blazer Brass ran in his RIA, so I bought some on my next range trip. For some reason it FTRB about 5-6rds per mag, just about 1/8" out of battery. A little nudge on the back of the slide was all it took to close it up. As soon as I got home I ordered the GI guide rod and plug (for ease of dissassembly), and a Wolff 16lb recoil spring, I haven't had nary a problem since.

The accuracy of this thing really astonished me, I'm no sharpshooter by no means. I can shoot 2" groups at 15yds off hand all day with any ammo I cram in it. It shoots POA at that distance, and I really haven't tried to shoot any further than that with it, maybe a couple of shots here and there. She'll hit pretty darn close to where I want if I do my part.

The trigger leaves a little to be desired (not alot), it has about a 1/8" of an inch of take up, but it breaks cleanly, and does not have alot of overtravel. I don't have the equipment to measure pull, but I'd guess about 4.5-5lbs.

The fit and finish is really good especially for a 1911 in this price range. As this is my first 1911 I don't have alot to compare it to. I rented a Para, a Kimber and a Colt at a range in OKC, For the price I'd buy 2 of these and have a blast.

My appolgies to the OP for hi-jacking your thread.

RIATAC45,
thank you, that is the kind of review that i was looking for, i appreciate that, sounds like it is a darn good one for the money.

The trigger leaves a little to be desired
that is an easy fix. :)

Put me in the club too. Might be fun! I sold my two pretty 1911's to get more project guns going, and currently have one that ain't that pretty, 'cause I haven't polymer coated it yet. Oh well...I had rather just shoot it for now! Pics to come later.

My first 1911! ( I've come over from the Dark Side ) ,acquired just this past sunday.

My 1911. SA Milspec. I put in a flat mainspring housing and added the Hogue grips. The fingergrooves on the grips seem to garner a lot of hate from other people, but they keep the gun from twisting in my hands when I shoot. So far, shoots everything I throw at it.

Kimber Custom II...

Before...

Swapped out the thumb safety for a Wilson Tactical (Its a bit shorter than the original)
Swapped out the slide lock (Because it is pretty...)
Changed out the mainspring housing.
New grip bushings and grip screws.
New rosewood grips...
Then I shot it a bunch...
After all of that was done, I performed a little fluff and buff to it and here it is...

KimberNew030.gif

Just purchased a GI guide rod for it and when I installed it the rod caused jams so it needs to be filed down a bit so it doesn't snag the slide upon recoil. Once that is fixed I will send it off to have some checkering done on the front strap, and have it refinished in desert tan with black parts...

When that is done, I will post tons of pictures and you guys can drool all over your keyboards and/or shirts...

Top half coated in cera-hide from CCR. GI recoil setup. Meprolight night sights. Non-descript rosewood grips. And I don't recall who makes the MSH with mag well.

Oddly enough, I used to have some stuff done to the champion, but one day decided to take it all off
