1911 IWB: Getting it REALLY tight against your side

I'm looking for an IWB holster for a 5" 1911 that can get the gun in really snug against my side.

Do you have any recommendations?

I was having fairly good success with my Comp-Tac M-Tac when a shirt is tucked, but otherwise the gun kind of flops side to side when I walk. It also tends to "walk" around my belt. If I don't secure it somehow, it WILL end up at 5-6:00 somehow. When I do secure it on the belt, my whole waistband, pants and all, starts to creep clockwise around me. I just bought a Galco double mag carrier that I might wear on my weak side to see if it will compensate the "tugging".

I had a Desantis Speed Scabbard once that basically molded a Sig 226 into the area at the bottom of my ribs. It was beautiful. I want that fit, but IWB. I'm not sure if it's possible.

It's not a holster, but I just put a "Clipdraw" on one of my 1911's last week and it does what you want... just without a holster. It stays tight to my side and doesn't move at all. It's solid too. I've had a lot of holsters, but may not use one for this 1911 too often. I'm not sure I could trust the other versions of the Clipdraw, that are held on with tape, but for the 1911, it just sits under the right grip and is held on with screws. It's only $20.

What kind of belt are you using with the M-TAC? I've worn a full-size 1911 in one without it shifting at all, and that was using the old-style standard clips. I was/am using a sturdy, reinforced belt to handle the weight of the firearm. I've also carried a Glock 21 with a similar setup and it didn't shift either.

Also, which clips are you using with the M-TAC? I have experience with both the old and new style standard clips and the V-Clips...neither of which allowed the firearm to move around.

If you are trying to use another item to take up some slack, you may not have the belt secured tight enough, or it doesn't have holes in the right spots for stability and comfort.

Just taking some shots in the dark here.

I found that my 5" in my Ross Leather model 18 moved a lot, both fore and aft on the belt and in how the grip was presented, until I had a new belt loop made that fits my belt snugly. I only get highly reliable positioning and presentation if I wear my belt tighter than I would otherwise, though not uncomfortably so. To get the gun to its least-likely-to-print ride, I must wear my belt on my waist, instead of my hips as usual, which results in the grip and beavertail pranging my lowest ribs: very secure, very concealed, very uncomfortable unless I am standing.

As to your rig hauling your clothing clockwise, perhaps a stiffer, wider belt will slow or stop that. (Anyone every use the term "swivel hips" around you? )

edit to add: FWIW, I have found a spent .22 case, a hammer, and an old catalog for an anvil make a fine hole punch for my belts.

My Milt Sparks WS1, holds em tight to your side. I've had three different models, for three different guns, and they all stayed where i put them. You must be playing basketball, while carrying, to get that much movement

Ah, sorry. I forgot about this thread.

I'm wearing a Desantis 1.75" black leather deal. It's nice and thick and resistant to adopting a "curve". I'm also using the current "Standard" clips for the M-Tac. I really thinking that the holster "walking" around has to do with my hips/body type. I'm super skinny with pointy hips; there's no "meat" to hold anything in place.

I actually tucked my PM9 into a Galco IWB and stuck that at 11:00 with the 1911 at 3:30, and it sort of "locked" everything in place. It would be great, except that it sucks to sit down with the Kahr up front.

I might try punching another hole in the belt to see if I can replicate that without the Kahr.

I like the clipdraw also but it stands straight up, i like the 15 degree tilt. Try the High Noon Holsters Bare Asset. I am in LOVE with this holster and it is cheap too. and i would rather have quality then worry about the price.

I have a Comp-Tac Infidel which is working really well. There is a strut you can buy for $10 more that aids in pulling the grip in.

I also ordered an Andrews McDaniel II. I'm waiting for it 2 more months...

I carry mine in an HBE leatherworks COM III, and just about any belt I use it with makes it stick to my side like glue.

I've got them for my M1911s (and BHP), Glock 19 and S&W 3" Model 65.

It does NOT move on my belt/pants and is easy to draw from and holster to.

It's surprisingly tuckable. Very inconspicuous under a tucked polo shirt.

Quite reasonably priced too.

HBE ComIII with a AJ Concealco dress gun belt. the combination holds it flat and tight and it does not move.

This is my 4" 1911 carried IWB. I prefer dual clips or straps, fore & aft the holster. It wraps the holster around your bodys shape pulling the gun into the body and the dual clips or straps prevent any rocking motion. This one is the much talked about Milt Sparks Versa Max 2. Any holster manufacturer out there makes one similar that works as well.....or so I am told.
