Been reading LOTS on how important the mag is for proper feeding in 1911s. Mine dont always feed well, I seriously suspect my mags.

Which make (or makes) of mag are the "gold standard" that will make my 1911s feed smooth like butter? Or is there no "for all occasions, for all 1911s" perfect mag?

My recipe is simple - USGI, Metalform, Springer, or Kimber welded bodies + Wolff 11lb spring + flattop follower with dimple. Every one works every time in ever 1911-pattern pistol I have and in my Marlin Camp 45.

Well, that pretty well sums it up for me too........;)

Overall, I’ve had my best luck with 7 round magazines. I’ve also used Wilson 47Ds (8 round) with good luck in my Colts, but they had issues in my Baer.

I bought 3 Tripp Cobra Mags and have now put 1000 rounds through them in my Baer and they’ve been flawless. The magazine body is longer than standard, and they have a heavier spring.

I’ve now sold all my Wilson’s and ordered more Tripp’s.

I have a pile of GI 7 rounders, no problems with them at all. They are used just as Uncle bought them, no change to anything. Metalform mags in the same configuration have worked well. Both are used as range beaters.

I also have fantastic luck with McCormick Power Mags, 8 and 10 round models. Many many thousands of rounds through them without a stitch of trouble. They see all of my competition and carry use.

Wilson 47D's are good once you put a good spring in them, I use the Wolf +10% extra power spring in them. If you shoot them to slide lock the follower gets hammered and won't lock the slide back after a couple thousand rounds, but not a huge deal. I typically use the Wilson mags as range beaters.

If you are going to go out and buy some get a couple Metalform 7 round magazines. If your gun won't run with them it probably won't run with anything else either.
