Hello,

I want to buy more mags for my kimber pro carry in .45 ACP. The gun is compact but my question is will any 1911 magazine work in the gun? I was looking at cabelas and it said that there was mags for a colt gov't model 1911. Will those work? Thanks

Yup, if its a pro-carry it should use standard length 1911 mags. The pro-cary should only be an inch shorter in barrel length than a full size 1911.

Thanks, also does anyone know if the 15 rounds mags work in these guns, i've heard of the springs not being powerful enough to push the round up. Thanks everyone!

I trust the Kimber Tacticals. I can't see why they don't supply reliable mags with the new guns.

From the prices I would have to say Bill Wilson has done very good with Wilson magazines. They're good magazines but there is no way I would pay that much for that name again. Out of eight I have had three of them develop cracks at the top rear corner. I have used McCormick mags for over 20 years and never had one fail.

Buy some Kimber Pro-Tac mags. No regrets later. Wilsons, Chip McCormicks, and Check-Mate mags are also very good though.

I have never tried the long single stack 15 round mags. If the spring is up to the task, they probably work OK, depending on the feed lips and follower.

Your barrel is 4" vs the full sized 5", but the grip is full sized. It will accept any standard 1911 mag.

Wilson's are supposed to the best, and I do not doubt it, but I have had just as much success with 8 and 10 round Chip McCormick mags. I have some of both. They are almost half the cost or Wilsons. I keep a 10 round mag in my house gun and it has worked perfectly so far. I have no experience with anything holding more than 10 rounds. www.cdnninvestments.com is a good source I have used in the past.

tripp cobras are suppose to be nice mags as well. I bought 2 to supplement my original colt 7 and 8 rounders. Have not tried them yet, but they are pretty tight in the gun.

IMO, Wilson mags and Checkmate mags are both good. I'm sure the other's are fine also. I do prefer the Checkmates because they have the dimpled metal followers.

On my three different Colts (stainless full size and Commander, and LW XSE), the Colt mags that came with them work fine.

That said, any extra mags I buy for them have come only from Wilson Combat as well as internal kits from Wilson for the stock Colt mags.

So, +1 for Wilson Combat.

wilsons are great and yes they work, but they are expensive, and i like to have lots of mags, you can't go wrong with chip mags, and i have even had great succes with kim pro tac mags.
