Just curious...

Let's say you take a gunbroker Colt 70s Gold Cup National Match at $1,500-$2k+

Where does that 1911 match up to today's price point? My guess is lower since a great value seems to be hard to come by with the power of the internet and owning those Colts may be more for the history or more for sending to a custom shop on down the road?

Seems like with today's markets and etc -- a $1,500--$2k auction 1911 isn't going to compare to a $3k Ed Brown, Les. etc. Those kinds of values are long gone...heh

But maybe it does?!

Most reviews I read, espeically by authors who are followed by the masses, all talk about how the accuracy of those 70s Gold Cup NM will not be beat... obviously that only goes so far -- but still pretty cool.

anyone have a good comparison of where a colt 70s NM could be compared to today...Dan Wesson Valor?? Morris Custom?? Heirloom?? I'm joking on the last 2

I knew I should have went with a "HK vs The World" or a "Best Pistol Under $1,000 thread!!!"

About the same IMO... The "cheaper" 1911's are only brought about by the use of cheaper parts (MIM), etc.

Even in todays market some of the 1500 dollar guns contain a few MIM parts, SA TRP for example.
Will it have the fit and finish of an Ed Brown, Baer, WC? Nope, but it can be just as accurate and durable.

Most of the big $$$ in the high end guns are in time. Time is money. Hand fitting is money. Polishing is... you know... ;)

Then there is forged versus cast/MIM whatever. Metal treating processes, etc.

Then there is the name. How do you know when there's a (insert high end 1911 brand here) owner at your party? Don't worry. He'll tell you.
I understand the big name 1911 makers are way backordered. Why would I sell my gun for $1500 if I'm selling 'em faster than I can make 'em at $2000+?

As for a $1500 GCNM. I'm there. I would take that over any of the newer stuff. Why? Good doG, man! Have you ever seen a LNIB 60's vintage GCNM? :what:

I'm a Colt fan, but a Colt NM is not in the same class as Baer, Brown or Wilson.
